Ok good- friends and went up to the Red River and commenced to some line stripping fun yesterday. THink the largest I got was 40 lbs. We of course relased them back to catch them later. Between 4 of us at 10 a piece landed- we were worn out. I played the large one for 30-45 minutes. I was using regular bass casting outfit with 40 lb braid. THose fish are strong as heck- I would get them to the bank and off they went again.

It is very much against the law to snag fish in Texas. It is against the law to even attempt to snag in Texas. You say you were on Red River , snagging would be legal there because you were in Oklahoma, but did you have a oklahoma fishing license. Capt. Steve www.txfishingguide.com

Hi Skeeter, Do you know that Rod & Reel Bank Fisherman are coming from Around the World to fish on the bank of Town Lake, Austin Tx. for a 46+ lb. unofficial State Record Carp? The 3rd Annual "ATC" (Carp Anglers Groups, Austin Teams Championship)this coming March will have 10 European Teams of 50, other U.S.Teams several from North Texas & maybe one Team from S.A., TX. competing? Your absolutely right about the battle a Big Gar or a Carp can give you! I've started a new Yahoo Group, We will be discussing Baits, Tactics, Tackle & Fishing for Thropy Carp in all Texas Lakes & Rivers. The Carp is a Fast Growing Sport Fish w/ a Big Bite, Run & Hold On to your Rod & Reel for Keepsake! Thanks for your time, Ralph Bushell http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TexasCarpAndBuffaloEvents/

Hi Brent, 10 teams of 2 Carp Anglers from Europe out of 50 teams of 2 Carp Anglers = 100 Carp Anglers on the bank March 26 & 27 1904. They won't Catch one Bass per 100 anglers I promise! Just get up very early those morning if you want to fish the bank on the north or the south side of the bank! If you have a boat it would be advisable to use, it will be quite a sight & less crouded from mid stream! But watchout for the 2 & 3 oz. bolt rigs they used to cast across the river. LOL, Ralph Bushell http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TexasCarpAndBuffaloEvents/

haha, Ralph, thats a relief. I was just envisioning 500+ people chunking lines into the water, those poor fish wouldn't stand a chance. I wouldn't mind seeing some of those 2 and 3 oz bolt rigs put an hole in and sink a few skiffs. (backwards row-boats) I've almost been hit more times than I can count by those rowers, they are all over that lake! I think I will try and make it out just to see the hoopla. Do you know where on the lake they will be fishing? ------------------ [This message has been edited by AustinTXAngler (edited 12-17-2003).]

They will fish both sides of I-35 bridge east & west. It'll be well worth your trip out. Town Lake is considered an International treasure in the Carp World. Almost unbelieveable of the size fist that will be Caught Pictured & Released w/ the utmost care. http://www.carpanglersgroup.com/cagevents.html Come visit some of us Texas CAG members below we would loved to talk to you about Town Lake & others in the Austin area. I don't believe it is illegal to snag carp & gar, because they are not considered game fish.

Lets get this stait here, first you can snag "rough fish" you know non-game fish. second, if you do catch the fish that's going to bring Lake Austin back to the pre-hydrilla condition, please please take it home let die in you wifes flower garden. It still makes no sense to me to put a non-native fish ina lake to get rid of every plant that is growing in the lake. Then when the plants are all gone introduce the native plants that were in the lake before the hydrilla. Makes a lot of sense to me.

Why shoot- can't you see what they are doing. It gives them(TP&W) a "reason" to raise the prices of our license each year. And I thought it was legal to snag non-game fish. Besides- those old iron sided gar can probably live no matter what you do to them.
