This is my new favorite white bass fly. I hope some of you guys can tell me what it is.

Anyone?

I've caught white bass (what I made it for) yellow bass, striped bass, largemouth, and surprisingly (at least to me, because I never catch them) a lot of crappie.

Now, if I just knew what it was, then I'd feel better.

Bret, can you breifly describe how you tie it?

I'm going to vote for "The Winch Streamer". That's what the white wrap around the front reminds me of and it sounds like you really winch them in the boat. smile

Yeah, I just tossed those ugly ones together for the photos, (too tired to tie cleanly).

My wife is calling is 'Bret's Ribbed Minnow' but I think she is making some sort of penis size joke.

blush

I guess it is worth noting that it did does well in the surf too.

LOL! Its whatever you want it to be! As long as it catches fish, who cares fish
I sometimes make up stuff, just out of the blue. That is one of the real fun things of fly fishing, is that you get to invent flies, and if they work good, DOUBLE BONUS! dance2

I vote for the "winch streamer" name,

John 5:24 Very truly I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

1Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.

the only think similar I have heard tied is the "glass minnow" streamer. It also uses the idea of the thick mono tied aroind the body to give it the translucense effect.

Or list the recipe for the Fly to End All Flies?

Shellac over chenille?

Each fly's tail looks to be completely different. Maybe it's all about the grubby body.

Score another one for minimalism.

Indeed. You really wrapped that one up.

Each one-of-a-kind, collector's edition, hand-tied-by-the-artist fly comes with its own little custom sarcophagus.

I like the mummy.

I like Mummy Minnow.

It is simple, and I'll throw up some simple directions in a bit.

That black flash tail was just something I was messing around with. I use black marabou on them, as it adds some movement in the water.

Another interesting bit, is that the mono wrap increases the durability.

lemme see what I can do for instructions. You'll all be disappointed at the simplicity of it. but it does catch the fish, nothing else matters right?

--------------------------------------------------------------

This is the sort of thing you can throw in any hook you want. I prefer Mustad 34011 for 'em, but I use Mustad 3366 as well.

I start even with the hook point and drop down some thread and some marabou for the tail.

staying at the rear of the fly, I lock in some yard (I usually use white, but I have caught on them in all sorts of colors).

I then wrap the yarn around the hook building up a football (fishy) shape leaving a little room at the front (as little as I can get away with). I finish this football back at the rear also.

Still at the rear, I lock in a length of mono (i like 40 lb clear, and it gives me a nice look).

I then tie off the thread and drop some zap-a-gap on it.

I restart the thread at the front of the fly (in front if the yarn) and let the bobbin hang.

The mono is then wrapped in even rows all the way up to the front (I use a good deal of pressure to compress the yarn some) and finished with the mono under the thread.

A little zap-a-gap finishes the front up as well.

The Mummy Minnow, I suppose.

that is something I will be tying up, I'm thinking that in a pale olive color on a small hook it will be an excellent scud/shrimp imitator and as such should be deadly for sunfish
