So I was wanting a project to start on, and although I've never really done any boat repairs or never really done any boat maintanence of any kind, I though I could try getting some kind of aluminum boat like a jon boat as a project boat to fix up and turn in to a beauty. I just have a couple questions. If I was to purchase a pretty beat up 12 foot aluminum jon boat. What would be some good upgrades or additions to add to the boat for bass fishing? Any ideas or suggestions would help. Thanks everyone! Please keep in mind that I am a college student, therefore I would not be able to have the money or time to create some amazing project, but just want to create something that I can call mine and cherish.
Thank you!

Try TinBoats.net. Everything you need to know about modifying and repairing a jon boat on a budget, and then some.

Aluminum boats are great for fixing up. I would encourage you to get a 14+ foot aluminum boat if you are looking to add much weight to it. Check to see if it leaks before you but it. You can add a few inces of water in it and tell. DO NOT fill the boat all the way up with water. It can bend up the boat and blow out the tires on the trailer. It needs to have a title on it to get it registered. If you are going to use it on a private pond it does not have to be registered. If you are going to used it on public waters do not waste your $ on a boat with no title. If you buy one with a motor, the motor can cost a lot more then the boat to make right. If you are buying a boat with a motor, have somebody that know about outboard motors look at the motor for you. As far as fixing the boat up, that is way to much to type right now. A coat of paint and some decks with carpet can make a world of difference. I have a 16' deep wide that has been converted to a bass tracker style boat. Its a lot of boat for the amount of $ that has gone in to it.
