I am trying to get out to the grasslands - and Sunday afternoon/evening is my best chance of getting away!

Let me know if anyone is interested - probably heading to Rhodes if I can find it again!
I have looked at the map (been there before 2 years ago) so if anyone has decent directions I would appreciate it!

I'll be out of town tomorrow, but Sunday is a possibility. Went to Rhodes tonight. Started really slowly, but picked up nicely after 10 or so. BTW, saw a first out there--guy in a bass boat. He was leaving as we were arriving, and he showed me pics of his big fish of the night--an 8-14! eeks

Truthfully, I didn't really notice. It was probably a 90s model, maybe 17-18 feet, and blue. Does that help? I think the guy said he was from Decatur?

What type of light source do you use after dark?

Curious because I usually leave right after dark - but if that is when the fishing gets good I will want to stay!

Most of us just use a standard headlight with also using the hat clip on black lights that you can get for about 8 bucks. I'm trying to get the pass to be out there Sunday night as well...

Go to Cabelas.com and type headlamp in the search feature. Pick your favorite model.

Anyone have good directions to Rhodes off 287?
I have been there before - followed Fishbrain in about 2 years ago - so might have trouble finding it again!

I have looked at the LBJ maps - but only main roads are named on the map.

Well, It's a little tricky. Take the 1st Alvord exit. When you're in town, turn right at the flashing amber light. Just across the railroad tracks, turn right. Now the tough part. Just on the edge of town, 4 or 5 blocks down, you'll turn left. I think this is Shankle Dr. There is a white sign right there for a Baptist church that is a good landmark. Next, turn right on the first road, which is Beyette St. A short way up, Beyette splits, and you need to take the left fork. This is Gossett-Foster Rd. Follow it on around about 2 miles, until you go down a hill and cross a small bridge (There is a tiny pond on the right just before the bridge and several houses scattered on the hill.). The road bends to the right, and the gate to Rhodes is right there, so be on the lookout. It's painted green, but there isn't much else to go by. Hope this helps!

We camped at Clear Lake all weekend. Bout midnight Friday a guy pulled in with a big dog boat. Kids say it was red and white. Woke us up pullin in but they were very considerate after they saw the tents and cut the lights n stuff. We were sittin there kinda watchin' sayin to each other "There is no way that guy can get that BIG boat in there!!!" Bout that time we heard the unmistakeable sound of trailer grinding cement...Went on forever it seemed. A few minutes later we heard the boat crank up and off they went. Bout 4 in the morning that unmistakeable sound woke me up again. I sat up long enough to see them tying things down. Crazy. I would not have thought you could launch anything bigger than a canoe or a spider boat from that ramp but I obviously am wrong. Great weekend. Caught a nice fish Saturday night right before dark which was probably my best out there. Caught my first fish on a flyrod. Kids grew gills they swam so much. (They have no qualms about swimmin through the weeds to get to open water) Tried to clean up the place a bit. Got all the trash I could outta the water around the dock and the kids picked up the "beach". (Just a thought but I wish they'd put a trash barrel out there.) All in all about as perfect a weekend as I could wish for. Five kids and three dogs are all gonna sleep good tonight!! Gotta have a bit of surgery Tuesday so I'm gonna be outta commission for awhile. It was a great last hoorah. So y'all keep fishin' n postin about it cuz if I can't do it I need to read about it. Dang, long post, sorry.

Dang, that ramp is treacherous when the lake is FULL! That's just insane! Glad you had a good time. Thanks for picking up the trash. They used to have a barrel, but they don't have the budget to keep it empty anymore, so they just took it out. It's a shame how many low-life folks just dump so much out there.

Speaking of your kids swimming, I took a snorkel and mask out there one day and swam around awhile. It was really neat, and the clear water let me see down probably 10 feet or so. Saw lots of fish, too. I need to do that again this summer. Best wishes with your surgery!
