Hello guys. My name is Jeff and I grew up on the Brazos between Granbury and Glen Rose. My wife and I are planning a trip next month below PK. We will be launching from Rochelles and camping somewhere along the Post Oak bend, where my Dad and I fished often when I was a kid. I haven't been down there in 20 years so it should be exciting, I remember excellent fishing there. I have never fished the river above PK and wonder if any of you have been up on that stretch. I would like to see the river closer to its source but have never really looked into such a trip. Anyway glad to be here and good fishing to you all!

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

I live in Mesquite now. My Dad and his Dad lived in Granbury their entire lives and I lived on the river until age 19, when I moved to Dallas for work. He was on the river before there was a lake in Granbury so he imparted a lot of knowledge about the river to me. I have ran many a trotline and seined many a minnow! Its been a long time since I fished the river but I am resolved to get back on it at least several times a year. To be specific the Mitchell Bend is basically where we lived, I believe Horseshoe bend and a place called Wolf Hollow are not far downstream from there.

Man i also have fished that area alot. Horshoebend though is along way from Mitchel Bend. Horseshoe is up river towards PK. You would have to jump the dam on Granbury and then run another 25 miles or so to horseshoe bend. I haul dirt out of Mitchell Bend. Ingrams concrete and a Dirt Pit have all but the river side of Mitchell Bend now. Not much water either. The BRA lets some water out on Thurs. and Fri, for a couple hrs. Lake Granbury and even the River is low. Went up river day before yesterday and on the way in the river channell there are spots that are no more than 8"-1' deep get by that area and then the river is ok, until Tin Top then shallows back up. Caught two fish on 10lb. and one 7lb. nice channells.

I too grew up on that stretch of river and spend many summer days walking the river bend. There are some great holes of water in Mitchell bend and fish are now getting some size to them after recovering from the algea kills ~3-5' years ago. The BRA will likely stop releasing water once summer hits.

As I said its been many years since Ive been down there. Looking forward to getting down to PK next week.

Yes Horseshoe is above Lake Granbury, Mitchell bend has some good holes in it as well as Wolf Hollow. I have fished that area a bunch, Abbey Bend aint bad either.
