I went to Cabela's today and they had some Carrot Stix (baitcaster model) on sale for $109.99 down from $149.99 and the Gold series was $159.99 down from $199.99 I believe. I had one in my hand to buy, as I just bought the spinning rod model a couple days ago and love it, but it just felt so fragile in my hand and I'm a little guy. The Cabela's guy asked if I was gonna buy it and I told him I wasn't sure yet. His response was that they get a BUNCH returned broken. That, along with my gut, made me put it back even though I love the one I have. Go figure.

Good thing these are bright orange... makes it easier to spot gullible fisherman.
My opinion is worth what you paid for it...

My fishing partner has 8 of them, and swears by 'em. Broke a couple, but returned them and have not had a problem since. From what I remember, there were some problems with the early runs, but the latest blanks have been much improved.
I'm a Cumara guy, but for $109, that's hard to pass up. Not many rods at that price with a lifetime over-the-counter warranty.

I have a friend that fishes them and has broken 4 or 5 on hooksets. He talks highly of them but I just can't go that route

too many other good rods, I've heard the proverbial "just return em when they break" line on tff many times and I dont get it. Instead of fishing saturday im going to take my broken carrot stick back and get another one so I can take it back when it breaks too.
go to st. croix and you get to fish not spend time taking your broken rod back to the tackle store.

they look pretty cool but the novelty wears off quick! i had one for about a week before I realized I made a mistake. I did not like the foam they used, it was super soft and would compress down really small when making lots of casts, not good for a cranking rod. i would say to take the advice you read on here and make up your own mind but my opionion of them is not overly positive! i talked to a guy at bass pro and he swears up and down they have never had the number of returns of these rods that some people swear they have seen. "buggies full of carrot stix".
