I have been using the gamakatsu wire guard worm hook but it seems that I loose ALOT of fish with this hook . What is the best hook and where can I find them. Thanks My dad looses so many fish off of those weedguard wacky worm hooks that it isnt even funny!! My dad is often my fishng partner, and we utilize the wacky wormin technique very often with good success. However, there is a notable difference in the bite to catch rates between me and him. He swings and misses, or loose the fish on the fight, very often as compared to me. He uses one of those weedguard hooks too, while I go with a regular wide gap hook in 2/0! He agrees that the hook costs him fish, but he uses it anyways, because he does not like to get snagged so much. There are many days when I am constantly haveing to unsnag my hook, while he fishes snag free. However, I would much rather get snagged up a few times then miss a fish, especially a good one. Those wire weedguards get in the way, plain and simple. They stop the point from getting good penatration. If you will notice, many of the landed fish on those hooks are just "skin" hooked! One day, I was getting frustrated while hanging up in heavy cover and tried one of his weedguard hooks. Consequently, I missed 4 out of my next 5 fish, 3 on the bite, and one that just came loose during the fight! The fish that I did land was just barely skin hooked. I quickly changed back and nailed my next 3 fish! To me there is no argument about it, weedguards get in the way, period! Like I said, you just have to way the costs! Do you want snag free fishing, or do you want better penatration and more landed fish! I choose landed fish! I wish a company would come out with a softer type weedguard for wacky hooks. Maybe a system similar to that of a jig, just less strands. I think that might be cool!

I use to use a regular wide gap 4/0 worm hook to. Till I seen these at BPS . I tried them out and got 2x the bites so I have been using them since. Up till last weekend in a torny. I set the hook then she jumps out of the water 10+ lbs and hook comes out mouth. Now im searching for a better hook.

I can't give a 5 paragraph answer like MeSkeeter, but I'll say Falcon K-Whacky are great...just clip the weed guard open. You can bend them pretty far...just be careful with the unweighted version.
Mustad Finacky are discontinued now, so grab them if you can find them.

The one that never misses a strike. Of the half dozen I have tried none meet that crtieria. But of the ones I have tried, I prefer the Gamakatsu 2/0 with the flimsy weedguard.

I use the Gary Yamamoto drop shot/ wacky hooks exclusively from Yamamoto web site. I have yet to loose one on them.

+1. If your missing them or only skin hooking them... maybe you need to slow downa nd let the fish take it and not jerk as soon as you feel the tap tap. I have lost very few on both the gama and the mr.blitz fin-ackey hook. The one that never misses a strike. Of the half dozen I have tried none meet that crtieria. But of the ones I have tried, I prefer the Gamakatsu 2/0 with the flimsy weedguard.

I have really good luck with the little hooks made by Owner. I just started using them this year and they have worked out very well for me.
