i need help fishing this small 40 acre lake that is very shallow........the deepest part being around 20 ft. cant find fish bigger than 12 inches from the shore. i was wondering where in the lake could i find some bigger bass and with what lures i could get them to hit. it is pretty murky water and has a lot of cotton tails around the banks.

Fish out a little deeper than the shore line. The bigger fish are now smarter as when they were 12" they got hooked a bunch in shallow waters....lol

Fish a black and blue jig with a craw trailer or LFT tube Craw out on the first break and slow down that should fatten your sack up! GOOD LUCK

Try plastics or deep diving crankbaits.

Maybe there aren't that many fish larger than what your catching. Fish tend to get sized based on what's available to eat. 12" bass eat a lot of small things and if all the small things get eaten, they are not allowed to grow large enough to support feeding a large bass. You see this allot with crappie. They get stunted because they reproduce so fast. What else can you catch at this lake? Is there natural forage in it?

bassking, that could be a possibility because a lot of fish i get out of there are really skinny. there is natural forage in the lake like, shad, bluegill, and bream; although there has been a few people to catch 6 thru 10 pounders in there that look pretty fat and healthy.

Fish at night. With a 10" Powerworm or Zoom 'Ol Monster.
Bigger fish will cruise the shoreline at night feeding on shallow water bait fish. (Sometimes!)
