Has anyone had trouble with certain hooks or baits that seem to have a sharp eye on the hook that breaks the line easily.

I bought a few bass jigs at Acadamey this weekend and my line snapped as i pulled the knot tight. This happened with both jigs and they were different brands. I also had the same problem last year with some shakey head hooks i bought at a tackle store at fork.

My line was brand new trilene xl 17 lb and i never have problems with it.

If the hook eye was painted it may have a sharp paint edge inside the eye. I have seen this happen before if they are heavily painted or powder coated.

Try taking a small pick or pin knife and Lightly Clean the inside of the eye. You don't want to knick the metal just clean out the hook eye. After that try retying your line on the jigs.

This happens alot with lighter flourocarbon too. Before tightening the knot, make sure to get it good and wet. Also, tie it slowly!

Ok, I will try those things tonight, I usually wet the line before tightening but may have forgot that step the other day.

The Shakey head hooks i was using were breaking everytime i set the hook.

Thanks Guys
