Just got back from Bob Sandlin and got skunked! I was fishing with crickets for 2 hours and didn't catch a one! Are the blue gill going deeper right now or what? Where should I try to catch them? I am stuck on the bank, so hopefully they did not go too deep.

During peak spawning periods, like we are in now, I find the larger BG tend to concentrate around spawning beds. The trick is to find those beds. Find 'em and you can wear them out, but don't find them and usually its very few fish and only small ones not in on the spawning game.

Ok, so what would I look for to find a spawning bed? Sand, rocks, grass, timber....?

these are spawning beds at the pond where i fish. this is really clear water. these beds are in between grass and the bank - it's really shallow.

So it looks like shallow sandy areas with little to no grass. Thanks for the pics, that helps.

That's some clear pond water. I'm very envious.
In case you aren't in water that clear, look for swirling that repeats itself in one area. They will almost always give themselves away. You have to watch carefully but they will show you where they are.

perch queen, that is a great picture. It should help a lot of people...people that haven't seen perch spawning beds. Cudos to you.
