My friend has a Johnson 115 and I have to pump the gas bubble while he is driving for it to run properly. If it is not pumped it cuts in and out. Recently the alarm started going off indicating low oil, but there is oil in it. We weren't sure if the problems are related or how to solve them, any help would be appreciated. Thanks

replace the bubble and any possible leaking hoses. Don't run it on the lake anymore for extended periods till you can get it to stop alarming with the water hose and muffs at the house. Also you might check/replace the water impeller or the oil resevoir sensor cap(on the engine) for possible replacement depending on what kind of alarm is going off (steady or beeping). Ask in the boats/motors section for the best help.

Does this engine have the VRO/OMS fuel/oil pump? My Johnson GT 150 sounds the alarm when the oil tank is about 1/4 full. Does the bulb go flat, if so there could be a fuel restriction. Does the boat have a built in fuel tank? If so the anti-siphon valves are known to go bad causing a fuel restriction. What type of alarm sound are you hearing, constant beep or intermittent? Rapid onoff sound is a "no oil flow" indication. One beep every 20 to 40 seconds is a low oil level in the remote tank. Of course a steady tone at all speeds is an overheat condition (on motors with a fuel restriction sensor, a constant horn at high speeds that disappears instantly when the throttle is pulled back indicates a fuel restriction. I would check for clogged fuel filter, clogged fuel/water separator (if so equipped), bad check valves in primer bulb, air leaks in any of the fuel line connections, bad anti-siphon valve on built in tank and if all that checks good then would suspect a bad fuel pump. While trouble shooting this problem you may want to seriously consider per-mixing your oil/gas at a 50:1 ratio to insure you are getting oil to the engine. It will smoke a bit extra but could save the engine if the VRO/OMS pump is not pumping oil. Also keep in mind that running a 2 cycle engine with any type of fuel restriction will cause a lean condition which can be very damaging also. Hope this helps you sort this out.

Lots of people just disconnect the VRO altogether. Then you never have to worry about your oil pump going out.

I have a Johnson 115. As stated above there can be several things that cause the horn to sound. I have a bad circuit in the oil reservior. It will be 150 bucks to get a new one. It sounds like you either have a bad air leak in the gas system, or the fuel pump is going out. The fuel pump and oil pump are built together on the VRO model. And yep it is high also. I checked, 350 bucks for the pump.

One other note. While making sure all the connections are air tight, take a close look at the carbs. even a slight loss in vacuum from a loose carb will throw it all out of whack. Been there, done that, put on new gaskets and away we go.

Look at all the help and information I have now by the generous people of this great board by posting in different sections. Some people just like to help. Not everyone reads the boats and motors section. Common sense is free Brad. Does this answer your question?

i'm a omc tech & sounds like leaking or cracked fuel hoses. they use crappie clamps on the hoses. then if not that for sure fuel pump. the new chemicals in gas eat rubber up.would definetly get rid of vro.premix 50:1 & unhook sensor. vro "s aren't reliable
Keep them boats running and tight lines. Thanks mike

redwigglr- You being an OMC tech, I'm sure you have much more experience than I on the VRO system, but I have been using it since 1986 and have never had a failure. I would never go back to pre-mixing.
