Hey guys wondered down here from the bass section. Im headed out this weekend to do a little bass fishing at Bastrop and have decided I want to try a little catfishing while im there. I think I want to hit the topwater bite for bass in the AM and fish for cats in the afternoon. Is this a bad idea? It seems traditionaly catfish are more of a night time predator, will I have a hard time catching them in the afternoon? Also if anyone has catfish suggestions for Bastrop they would be helpful. And one last thing...what depth should I be looking in this time of year?

The right bait, you'll catch cats on summer and winter days. If it was me, I would use a good stinkbait. will catch some good numbers, but shad will give you a good chance of a picture taking cat. But I've hung my share of big cats on stinkbait also. Look at the water temp.. If it is in the 75 degrees range, look shallow. If it is lower or higher, look in the 8ft to deeper range.
