Search for missing boater on Lake Ray Hubbard resumes
08:58 AM CDT on Monday, June 1, 2009
By SCOTT GOLDSTEIN / The Dallas Morning News sgoldstein@dallasnews.com
The search for a 38-year-old man who fell off a boat on Lake Ray Hubbard on Sunday has resumed this morning, according to a Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman.
Dallas Fire-Rescue consider the effort a recovery operation, said Ernest Gurul, a department spokesman.
Rescuers from several agencies responded to a call about 8 p.m. The man, who was with another person on the boat, had apparently gone underwater in the lake near Interstate 30.
Gurul said he did not know the specifics of how the man fell or who alerted authorities that the man was missing.

A teller at my bank told me that it was his buddy he went to high school with. He said he fell off a boat and didnt come back up. Bad deal for sure.

Yikes. I was on the lake Sunday evening with my father and we saw all the "blue lights" under the I-30 bridge. Wonder if he was among the crappie fishermen tied up under the bridge. My father and I had just been talking about how there hadn't been any accidents at Ray Hubbard for several months. That's sad. You can't ever be too careful.

Why is it that he didnt resurface after he fell in? is there a current under water that sucks you down or something? I've read other similar tragedies happen where the boater falls in and doesnt come back up. My condolences to the family.

you fall in and the body exhales all the air that was keeping you bouyant. over the next few hours, the bacteria that starts breaking down the tissue releases gases and makes the body float(thus it rises back up to the surface). colder water(like we had in the last drowing a few months ago) keeps the bacteria from building and takes longer for enough gases to build up to float the body.
this is another tragic drowing and my prayers are with the family..
i also hope the scum who broke into this deceased mans house while they were searching for his body, gets caught and put away for a LOOOONG time!
