I have never been but I keep reading good things about it. Is it similar to Amistad (physically) with clear water and some brush? Is there a lot of hydrilla? Standing trees?

Yes to all. Never been to Amistad, but Ivie's got trees, hydrilla, clear water (6-8 ft visibility?), and deep structure. Murkier up the river arms. Plenty of salt cedars/bushes, and plenty of big trees as well.

Since Amistad was so low for so long, it allowed a lot of trees to grow on the dry banks for 12 years. Ivie filled up almost imediately, so the salt cedars are what line the banks. The larger mesquite, oak and pecan trees along the old fence lines and creeks are the make up of the trees.

There are three major creek or river arms. Two of them go for miles. Elm Creek only goes for a couple of miles. These are lined with lay downs, gravel bars and larger trees.

The main lake has humps, grass, ledges and flats. So, you can fish your strength there with the diversity of the banks.
