Going to pick up a shad tank on the way to Texoma on Friday morning. How big of a tank do I need to hold approx 50 shad? I was kind of thinking 20 gallons but would like to go a little smaller if I could. Also I was looking at getting one of the sunshine tanks and noticed some have a blue liner inside and others are white. Does it really make a difference? I have also read that salt in the water helps them stay alive, other than that is there anything else I need to do such as changing the water out? Thanks in advance for the help.

George has everything that you need to know on the website. Also a simple search on the TFF can answer all your questions about shad tanks, salt, etc.

As far as the size of tank, I suggest to get the biggest one your boat can handle. You don't always have to fill it up all the way or put 200 in. When you need to carry more shad it's nice to be able to have the equipment that will allow you to do so. Also remember that shad come in all sizes. It's nice to have room for all of them.

Grayline/Sunshine advertises that their 11 gal tank will keep 55+ shad alive. Not sure if another manufacturer's tank of the same size will keep that many alive.

If you are not an everyday fisherman (LIKE A GUIDE), then you do not need a 50 gal tank.

I have a 40 gal tank I do not use shad every day (actually most days I do not use them at all) I wish I had a 30 gal tank (just for those special occasions). The bigger they are they just take up room in the boat.

Really unless you are just focusing on THE STRIPERS you do not need them at all.

The slabs work just as good (really better) from TNT http://www.trollingnolanstackle.com

shad like cool water...helps to put in a little ice after awhile....you can buy shad keep alive at academy..........the white liners are for shad used to catch whites.......blue liners help get'em used to seeing those big blue jaws from a hign fin blue coming in to slam'em. I use the blue liners.

Steven look at our website,http://www.graylinebaittanks.com/ or call George(580920-2085). Hope he doesn't fire me for this, but I really think our 17G tank would fit your needs for a lot less money then the 20G. For $368 you can get a tank that will easily hold 120 shad, compared to the 20G @ $517. Both prices include the extra aeration pump that we highly recommend. Give us a call and we'll fix you up.

If they have corners--they will all bunch up in them and die. The Keep Alive tanks stink and are worth the money--no filteration. Aeration does you know good if the water i toxic due to lack of filtering. Either make you own(cheap but takes a little effort) or buy one with a filtration system.

You can get a REALLY nice fiberglass tank(not plastic) 20 gallon for 109 and build a filtration system on it for about $45.

You can get a whiskey barrel liner (about 50 gallons) at Lowe's for around $20. They're black, though.

Go to any of the feed stores and you can get a blue 50 gallon barrel for about $12--you can cut it down to 30 gallon and you are set.---Black would be tough as it would heat up QUICK
