Thought I would take the boys out to grapevine this afternoon just to see what was cooking with the sandbass and maybe scare up a catfish or two also. Got on the water around 3 and it was nuts. Probably 100 boats/jets on the water and half of them acted like they didn't even know how to drive a boat. Between the 2+ foot waves on the open water and all the chop, we couldn't find any calm water even in some of my secluded secret little spots. I had a pair of jetfleas racing in a cove in 6 feet of water at full throttle within 50 feet of me. NO fish were caught and after about an hour of fooling around looking for some calmer water, we decided to give up and head home. Looks like summer cookoo mode hit again. time to start fishing weekdays and late evenings again I guess

Grapevine has started to feel smaller and smaller - both from the standpoint of fishermen and recreational boaters. Of course, there weren't exactly great maps of the lake years ago. Now it seems like people know exactly where to look for the fish due to various chips available. The weekend boaters also appear to be a more oblvious breed to me as well.

I was on the lake a week ago this past Tuesday evening and the Katie Woods parking lot was full. It wasn't that way ten years ago.

Grapevine was a zoo on Friday. I definitely would avoid Katie's woods. I was on Lewisville today and it was good until noon. Then there was two to three foot waves going in every direction with 5 mph winds. I had to idle all the way back to the ramp. This is why I am going to get me a walleye boat!

If you can't beat them join them , I have learn to play on weekends and fish during the weekdays. I respect my fellow fisherman when I'm playing. and I teach who ever drives my boat to stay away from the boats fishing.

EVERYONE NEEDS TO BELIEVE IN SOMETHING , I BELIEVE I'LL GO FISHING smile

It seems like they stayed away when gas was $4 a gallon, but that is not a good solution. Although my 50 HP mercury might only burn a couple of gallons a day, my 4Runner doesn't do so well.

I know exactly what you mean. I was there Sunday. Won't do it again! We managed to catch a few, but it was hardly worth it. I too will do the weekday trips from now on there.

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

With LL up, I can always find a place where the fleas do not go.

I went out to Ray Roberts on Saturday but here's they key: I got there at 4AM. I was off the water by 8:30AM with a cooler of crappie.

Also been on Grapevine several times in the last week and always put in at Katie's Woods... at about 9PM. Fish until midnight. The skiers stay off the water when its dark.
