Took my trusty UL gear, with red/chartreuse tube jigs, on 1/32 nd oz UNPAINTED jig heads, and GOT INTO EM GOOD! Kept 7 to take home but musta caught 30 in about an hour and a half, and doesn't count 3 bullheads, one bass, and one tilapia! Two bookend 9 inchers: One Bull bluegill, and one Bull Green Sunfish The two 9 inchers and two 8 inchers: The two 9 inchers and the 5 8 inchers i took home! Rudy

When I first saw that green sunfish I thought you had caught a state record longear. I bet it is a green sunfish cross since it is shaped like a bluegill or longear which would still be a state record.
Nice catch!

Interesting characteristics on those fish. That one does not look like any green sunfish I've ever seen...and one looks like possibly a red ear and another has some copper nose in it.
Very predictable that the pond also had Tilapia in it....big BG and Tilapia go together like peas in a pod.
Nice pictures.

I have caught green sunfish out of stock tanks, this place and the pond over at Blue Lake Circle in Farmer's Branch, and ALL of them look like this when they get this big!
The orange tip fins are dead giveaways.
They are full fledged greenies.

Also, when the pics were taken, the fish were either already dead, or in various stages of approaching death! Colors were beginning to fade, so they all look different than they did when i caught them.
They were preparing to meet the fillet knife

The green looks like a hybrid to me. The head is too small for a pure green that size. However, the yellow on the fins definitely says that there is some green sunfish in the genes.
Anyway, very nice catch, bet they tasted good.

Bluegill is flat out outstanding table fair! It is on a par with walleye and crappie! That darn good.
Caught a big mess of em last night, smallest one about 7 inches, several in the 9 inch plus category! Fat, thick bodied bulls!
Pics later.

I agree Meadowlark... on all counts. Dead giveaway is green sunfish have a far larger mouth and elongated body. Still damn nice sunnies/gills! Great job, man! ...and oh yeah, they eat real good.

Had some for dinner tonight, along with some crappie. Still can't decide which one I like better. Good looking fish you got there.
