Took a coworker out fishing yesterday - he hadn't been fishing in about 20 years, and the biggest fish he'd had then was a crappie ... I told him we could fix that crazy Went through the launch routine, netting bait, etc - Steve was looking somewhat skeptical at the big shad I was putting in the livewell & asked what exactly I had planned for those? I told him they were bait, and his only comment was that's the size of the fish he's caught in the past. hehehe

Wanted to put us on sandbass first, so we headed over towards the old dam. First hump we anchored on was swarming with sandbass, but they just weren't that aggressive. Had some takers on slabs & mice, but they weren't really feeding all that actively. They were actually selective about color - settled on white as being more productive. But, it was plenty for my coworker, as he'd never caught fish on a lure at all - let alone two at one time laugh for that matter, he'd never seen so many fish in a cooler at once!

Somewhere in the midst of this, I looked up and realized that we were surrounded by fishing boats!! Aaagh, claustrophobia! Actually it was cool - some knew who I was from here and asked if I minded them fishing close by. My answer was that it was ok as long as we weren't banging boats or rods agaisnt each other. About 6pm, I told Steve that it was time for hybrids. He looked nonplussed and said ok.

Went back over towards Lake Park and started soaking live baits ... only took a few minutes for Steve to understand what I'd been talking about earlier ... rod doubled over and him hanging on for dear life LOL Eventually we figured out that the fish were actually more interested in cut bait than live, which worked fine for me. Gave some shad to two other boats nearby and got to see fish getting caught on both shortly after that - one boat I've seen out there quite a bit lately, a guy by the name of Zeke and his grandpa. They were both hooked up at once; though we weren't close enough to see their faces, we could hear some noise coming from them as they landed both fish woot Always a good feeling to help someone catch big fish.

Final count for the day was - this is in honor of DTA lol - ONLY 45 sandbass (32 keepers) and ONLY 9 hybrids (1 undersize). Steve had his first sandbass, his first hybrid, his first double (sandbass on slab & fly), his first fish on lures, the most fish he'd ever caught in a day and the biggest fish of his life - hybrid about 5.5# I'd say that was an excellent day.

Great day in deed! I'm hoping for some good results tomorrow! Trying to get a buddy of mine hooked! (Hopefully have a new fishing partner after tomorrow)

I hope we have the same success as you had!!

Well if you hook him, use barbless hooks and go for the ear - that way you can say it's just a piercing.

Love it when your able to make someone a believer in this fishing thing smile

Nice report thumb

Are you picking up those big shad where I told you? They just keep coming. Each time I keep thinking to my self that nothing is going to go for these because of being too big.

Great report.
Looking to really learn some about this lake, but I'm usually by myself. Launching, scouting, fishing, and loading solo really doesn't do it.

If anyone wants a back seater to split gas, etc, I'm game if the schedule works out. Plus, I'd like to meet some Lewisville regulars.

Butch, I've been experimenting with both types & have settled on using circle hooks mostly if I'm leaving the rod in the holder. If I'm flylining a big live bait (i.e. holding the rod with the reel in freespool), I have better hookups with the j hooks, and they're getting stuck in the jaw anyways because they don't don't get time to swallow the hook.

Honestly I'd like to get to the DTA or papapeck stage where I can get them on lures consistently ... flehan

I can never do that well getting bait let alone catching fish with them. I might need a lesson some time. The kid can throw a cast net better than me but I can't find the bait... hmmm
