Anyone have a review of their experience with the TEXSUN II out of Galveston?

I just talked to a lady there, and she said that the boat would hold up to 65 people, which sure sounds like alot.... course, for $25/man, they have to make money some way.

I'm contemplating the idea of going on this with my 5 year old boy, who would think it was pretty cool to fish in a boat out on the saltwater.

Any advice would be welcome. Further, economical alternatives would be welcome, too....

shane, i cant speak of texas sun but i have been out in the cavalier with galveston party boats inc which is also a 25/person trip. i can say that really 4 hrs of fishing dont expect to catch much. you have short fishing time and majority of the time is boat riding. im not tryin to discourage you from going but just expect alot of "riding time"

good luck

Most of the trips on the coast under 8 hours are joyride cashcow fishing trips. They'll drift a few times for kings and catch a few but not a boat full. Boats like the Island Queen in Port Aransas are better suited for kids on short trips on the cheap.

for $25/man, I dont expect to haul home a bucket of fish. I'm just hoping for a "fun" time on the water with my boy. I'm curious if there is any reasonable hope of that.

In particular, I'm interested in knowing how crowded it usually is, what kind of condition the gear is in, etc....

Is there anyone with experience with this particular company? or can anyone recommend an alternative (still in Galveston)?

I went on a bay a jetty trip at the first of may. IT SUCKED! The boat was FULL. Only catch for the entire full boat was 3 shark and 1 Huge stingray...and a handfull of hardhead.

I do recomend the deep sea trips though. Those are a blast lots of ridetime but you pull up snapper left and right.

well we went on that 4 hr trip with Texsun II today. Our group was two families of four, with the kids being between 4 and 6 years old. Most folks on the trip caught small sharks, including blacktip, bonnethead, atlantics, etc.... A handful of gafftop were caught, and a few random items. One guy hooked into a big ling, but lost it at the boat during gaffing.

All in all, I'd say it was a great deal for $80 bucks for our family. Best yet, many of the folks who caught fish didnt claim them, so we brought home about 10# of sharkmeat. Now I just have to figure out how to cook it....

hey shane this is randall, man i cook shark in different ways the way i like it best is to put it in foil with butter, onion, some garlic and put it on the grill for 15 to 20 minutes depending on how thick the shark steaks are i cut mine about 1 inch thick.you can also bake them or fry them i prefer them grilled.

The Texsun II bay trips are kind of an introduction to saltwater fishing. They do mostly bay & jetty fishing for whiting, sandtrout, maybe some redfish or small shark etc.

Economical way to start your kid on saltwater fishing - just keep your expectations realistic on one of these trips.

we kept our expecatations low, and overachieved. it was a fun trip, and I wouldnt hesitate to go back. one of these days I may drag my boat down there, but at $25/man, I thought it was a bargain.

sadly, none of the kids caught fish. my boy actually got seasick and fell asleep. my daughter wasnt interested in hanging around awaiting a bite. We were on teh sunny side of the boat, so she and her friend spent most of their time in the cabin (air conditioned). they all came out to see when somebody caught something, and still had a good time. Everybody got to hold a shark and feel their skin, so they had a cool time with that.
