Ok ... I give up 16' ;

http://www.vanishingspecieswildlife.com/...ississippiensis

http://www.nashvillezoo.org/animals_detail.asp?animalID=2

I went to 10 different sites. Most list their maximum size as 14' and one 15'. They do mention the world record being 19'.

Here's some Texas info that lists a possible 13'10" record.

http://mainehuntingtoday.com/bbb/2007/10/10/one-big-alligator-caught-in-texas/

Fla record is 17', Alabama is 12'8" , La. has the record 19 footer.

But to end all this blustering by you folks saying that these record size gators are swimming around , well, as they say "this post is useless without pics"!

Stay tuned. Pics are on my computer at work. You'll have to forgive me if it's not exactly 16 feet, I didn't take a tape measure to him. Pics in the morning....

long branch has a couple, theres one hanging out in possum cove which is the first cove on the left in long branch and theres one in the very back of the creek.

the one in possum is big about 8 feet the one in the back of the creek is about 5'

Sorry to get technical, I didn't mean to offend you!

I personally have wade fished within 50 foot of an estimated 10 footer ... for over an hour. I've boated within mere feet of hundreds from 7 foot up to an estimated 12. I've run trap lines with a friend for 2 seasons ... biggest catch was a 9'6" specimen. I think I know more about the size of specimen swimming out there than most here. So, when I hear all this 16 footer stuff I am a bit skeptical. A 10 foot gator is huge ... believe me that is a biggun! I suspect that most of these big gators we hear about are 8'-12' specimens. That's big ... I ain't arguing that!

Also, lets face it ... we are dealing with fisherpersons here ... there is a natural tendancy to stretch things a bit... like the size of their ... errr ... catch. And the number of fish they caught. How big the one that got away was! Just human nature!

I fished Ivanhoe this past weekend, and it sucked. my sister has a lake house there, and when they drained lake charmaine in march they killed all of the grass on her section of the lake. drained the lake during spawning season. the only grass thats still alive is the grass in the deepest part of the lake. and with all of the skiers and jet skiers and wakeboarders, its hard to fish those spots.cool, your almost local. i learned accuracy casting by fishing kimball creek in warren.
