My catfishing days have been limited since my wife was killed in an automobile accident almost two years ago. I have a 13 year old daughter I am raising alone.
Now, I am finally getting a couple days to go fishing and I am busy trying to get everything ready. I am thawing out beefhearts and shrimp at this time. I have a couple questions you guys might be able to help me with.
I jug fish and rod and reel fish. I bait my jugs and then break out the rods and reels. I generally prepare my beefhearts by cutting them in cubes, adding red food color, a little oil, and either garlic powder or anise oil. It just so happens I have a five pound bag of sugar that is super hard that I have had for a long time. Do you guys know if catfish like sweets? I am thinking of making a thick base of sugar water, cutting my beef hearts, and freezing them in this solution. Has any of you guys ever added sugar to your bait?

Yea they do but I would use the sugar to make some chum for when you take your daughter fishing. Put it in some milo or corn to help it sour then chum with it where you are going to rod n reel it

I add sugar to chicken liver. It needs to sit a day or two somewhere warm though. Just use a airtight container and it wont smell. It will last several weeks without refrigeration and stays on the hook a lot better.

I use brown sugar in my blood bait. Don't know if that helps you or not, but they seem to like it.

Ok, thanks guys, I have heard of people adding red soda pop to bait, so I figured the sugar would not hurt.

That almost sounds good enough to eat.
