I just put them on the hook, but I think I've heard of others doing that. Just don't know how.

Use the nibble as a jig protector lol put it on the hook but not all the way down it helps keep the hook from sticking limbs and cover when fishing BP and trees I just bought the gulp green wax worms they work really well. when i get some of the fish out of my freezer now ill start keeping them again and well post pics.

I don't even try to keep them alive. Just put them in ice water (in the ice chest) - you have about 4 hours to use them - after 4 hours they lose their goodies.

I use 1/16 or 1/32 oz jig head with the shad - hooked under thier jaw and stright up between thier eye balls (right thru the middle of thier heads - it hard there and they stay on better). With a #3 spilt shot about 6 iniches above that.

I haven't the confidence in jig fishing yet, but I have jig heads tied on and minnows hooked in the manner that Mark hooks shad-are there any advantages or disadvantages of hooking minnow this way. I noticed that all the ones I've landed were hooked in the upper lip and haven't had any swallow a hook-which is the reason I started hooking them this way.

I use minnows and jigs and jigs with nibbles. I too was a minnow junkie but have cut my habit down by about half as many minnows used. I have found the Panfish Assassin and the Bobby Garland baby shad jig bodies to work very well for jig fishing newcomers. They have a wide assortment of colors in both brands and I recommend getting some in white, clear with sparkle, chartreuse, and silver if they have it. I also like to tip my jigs with Crappie Nibbles. They come in different colors and i have found that the Pink, Chartreuse, and white work great. When the bite is good i will drop the nibbles and just use a jig until it stops then just add a nibble and see what they want. Good luck and enjoy the wide world of jigging

I just use what is the predominate size shad that you happen to be catching. We caught some big, BIG Ol Crappier the other day with 3 to 5 inch shad still in their mouths – that there should will tell you something - big Uns hit the big baits/BIG SHAD.

But just go with whatever you catch (DO NOT BE SCARED to go with the BIG BAITS). It’s really is what ever is the hatch is (and what ever bait fish you happnen to catch the most of - THAT THERE IS WHAT THEY ARE EATING - RIGHT NOW!)

I have to agree with Mark. Caught a thirteen-incher yesterday and the same thing. He took my minnow, pulled him up, and a tail was hanging out of his gullet; five-inch shad not even digested. They're just like bass when they go on the gorge!

Reminds me of a long-time fishing bud I used to fish with. When we first met, he was all about deep-water and live bait. I was strictly shallow to medium depths, artificial exclusively. I learned so much from him through those years and I'd like to think he from me. Now, I don't beat any single drum...whatever's pulling 'em in! Go ahead and use a double-barrel.
