Just replaced the foot pedal switch and second trip out, the ole motor guide quit again. It's a Brute 767.

Anyways, I have 12 or 24 volts going to the foot pedal switch. How do I test that switch? What does that switch do? Just has a hot and ground coming in and no wires going out.

Any help appreciated. I have to head to work, will check back when I get in.

Thanks

its just a contact switch there is no ground and pos it just breaks one or the other, its just what it implies a switch to make or break contact in a complete circuit, to check it disconnect the wires and then with a multi mter check for coninuity between the contacts with the button pushed if you get no tone then the switch is bad

If it is the bigfoot switch--it just has to copper contacts on the base and a copper cup that shorts the 2 contacts when the button is pressed---the copper get corroded really easy but it should take more than 2 trips---I would think it would more likely be the splices where you connected the switch.

whatever you do get it fixed before you go out again. I took out my boat last Sat. and my switch quit while fishing a bridge close to the bank. I had no control and was pushed onto the rocks/concrete in a matter of seconds. The boat only had 20-25 hrs and the trolling motor was a Motor Guide 54 Pro was Series.
