I have found myself in possesion of two new light 7ft'ers. I have always been a medium light man but was wondering if anyone uses these floppy things. I only drift and wade the flats and rarely throw live bait. Topwaters early and art. as the morning progress. What can I expect in the way of sensitivity with my braided line? Should i worry about snapping the rod? Should I change my approach? any help will be appreciated

I would love a light rod for trout and reds on the flats. What kind of rods are they? If you want to get rid of them give me a price and I'll see if I can take them off your hands lol.

Brand has a lot to do with both the sensitivity and breaking ability.
The more sensitive a rod is, the more likely it is to break due to carelessness, but shouldnt because of a fish.
The more sensitive, generally the more the cost.

i prefer medlight. I did have a light american rodsmith. it was a great rod, until i hooked it really hard and guess i hit an oyster bed. snap. no problem though, they replaced it.
but it mad a 6lb redfish fight very interesting.
when all the fish are gone and all the crops poisoned people will realize u cant eat money

Usually the more you spend, the material the rod is made out is better. So your more inclined to snap a cheaper rod than a more expensive rod. This better material also plays into the sensitivity of the rod. I have been really impressed with falcons coastal rods.

Like everyone has said, the quality of the rod makes the biggest difference. I personally use Medium rods when throwing jig head/arts, topwaters, and other heavier artificals. I have two medium GLXs that I use for that and then for free lining shrimp, popping cork shrimp, or free lining piggies/croaker I use a Medium Light action that has an extra fast tip, find I can zip those suckers out there with that one. I had a light popping rod but if was to light for my taste and really it is just all personal preference. But the P844s have never treated me wrong so far.
The sensitivity of the rod also depends, like you said about braid, on setup and quality. Hope this helps and if you never try anything new how will you ever know what you could be missing out on.
Keep a tight line!

"Medium Light action that has an extra fast tip"!!!!
Sorry but "medium light" is the power of the rod not the action, the action of your rod is "extra fast"

I too prefer the lighter rods... I like the smaller diameter braids for casting ease, combined with a light rod you can flip a live shrimp, or light jig a good distance and feel every lil bump if a fish touches it...
