My dad, brother and I are headed to Port A this weekend to bay fish for trout and reds and whatever else we can catch. We have a 22ft blue wave and also enjoy a good fight offshore given the conditions are right. We have the tackle we need for any bay fishing or near-shore offshore trip. We would love any tips and tactics and bait ideas for bay/offshore fishing out of port a this time of year. Thanks guys. Any specific locations would be great as well.

Well it depends really on what you want to do 1. And the wind 2.
I have gone out and chased reds in the flats with lures. Some use bait in the pot holes. they are hitting pretty good IF you can get menhaden.
Trout are hitting croaker pretty good on deeper grass beds along shorelines and drop-offs from the flats. Find hard sand and grass and bait and they are there somewhere.
I dove the jetties today and saw snook, reds, trout, smacks, jacks, and tarpon! pretty sweet. Oh and shot 7 grouper! spearfishing.
Saw a guy catch a ling out there on the jetty and have heard reports of numerous ling at the wells. There have been sailfish caught at the stan pipes already this year too.
Little more info and i can help you out.
Good luck

Shank'n,
Thanks for the info. As far as our experience, we are experience fishermen, just not very experienced in the bays or offshore. Between time and money we don't get to come as often as we'd like. We have fished Packery Channel, and just around most of the flats and bays around Port A and Rockport. We've been to the stan pipes a few times, but always in August, never this early yet. We normally king fish with free floating frozen ribbon fish and wanting to try something new and hopefully catch some good fish. Are there any specific places that you would suggest in the flats, or what exactly to look for? Also, fishing the jetties, what do you suggest as bait, and should we fish the bottom, troll, or what? Thanks for the info, we appreciate it. By the way, this forum is great. Keep up the great updates and so on.
