My buddies and I are taking a fishing trip this weekend for two days one night. I was really wanting to go to Fayette but the parks are booked. I know it is memorial day weekend and a 100 fisherman on a 2,000 acre lake plus pleasure boaters won't be fun. I was thinking of Rayburn or Choke as an alternative. Just looking for some ideas. I want to show my buddy who does not fish much a good time. (numbers is a plus)

IF you want to be sure to catch fish, the best lake I know is Amistad.

I would choose Rayburn this weekend, plenty of room to get away from everyone. Fish the grass flats, ditches and ledges on San Augustine Flats.

Go to nacogdoches! Numbers and quality, plus you can hide from whatever waterskiers that are on the lake!

i appreciate it kingchamp202 & LFG, i was thinking the same thing! I was thinking we could hit farmer flats and beeche or veeche pretty hard and get a good number of fish while at a chance at a big one at the same time. Drybass, i appreciate the advise but, my friends and I would love to fish a lake other than stillhouse and belton. They are very good lakes but just wanted to get away for the weekend to be out of the area.

Wes, I would also give a +1 for Amistad. Less ski/wake boats, and plenty of area to get away. Just because the ramp has 150 trailers there, doesnt mean its packed! Problem may be finding area to stay though. I go from Temple, and its really not as far as one might think.

I want to say last time 5 1/2 hours, with stops and running speed limit. Maybe a little shorter, been over a year.
