This was posted over at TKF.....Posting it over here for those of you that dont frequent TKF

It has come to my attention recently that the Medina County Commissioners Court is considering authorization to the following:

Prohibit parking along County Road 271 at bridge below Medina Lake Dam; Located in Precinct 1

PUBLIC NOTICE

Medina County Commissioners Court will conduct a public hearing on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 10:00 a.m., in the Commissioners Courtroom, 1100 16th St., Hondo, for the purpose to consider prohibiting parking along County road 271 at bridge below Medina Dam. Located in Precinct 1.

LIMITED INFORMATION AVAIALABLE:

At this time I have only a limited amount of information available. I have a number of photos that show the low water bridge crossing and the extent of how the nearby land owners have made some rather intensive attempts to limit access to the river with Fencing and Boulders to block parking.

THE ALAMO CITY RIVERMEN POSTION:

We are asking that the County consider a more reasonable alternative and compromise over a draconian series of "No Parking Signs:"

Instead we would like to see a more proactive approach to include the following:

Parking signs at the river stating "Temporary Loading & Unloading for Canoes, Kayaks and small watercraft"
Elimination of the fence at the low water Bridge Crossing or at a minimum have the fence constructed wider to 4 feet to allow for canoes to enter the water.
Steps at the rivers edge to facilitate entry in and out of the river.
Signage to indicate the nature of the river downstream with notification to respect private property.
Parking signs further up on the high ground for vehicles.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

STEP ONE:

Send a Letter or E-mail to the following:

She is receiving and public input on this Via E-mail or Snail Mail. If feasible copy back to me at the following:

You may also direct an e-mail or Snail Mail to the Pct. that the County Road falls in Pct 1, here is information on contacting the respective Commissioner:

Richard Saathoff, Commissioner Pct. 1

STEP TWO:

If you live in the vicinity of Hondo, Texas Consider attending and making a statement at the Medina County Commissioners Court Public Hearing on Tuesday, May 26, 2009. I have listed the street address and location under PUBLIC NOTICE. Presently I am unsure if I can attend do to work requirements.

That's progress for you!

As a kid in my late teens I used to run all over that river, and drive right up to the bank in the lake area, and nobody ever minded.

Of course we never trashed the place, and left it always the way we found it, and better.

Of course back then peope had respect for property that they didn't own.

Nodays I can see why they don't want people down there, and unless it's a park and patrolled by some type of security it will get trashed, and those people paid dearly to own that property and I can see their side of it.

I hope that a reasonable decision will be made as it's a shame people and kids nowdays get fenced out of every decent place to play, but slobs will be slobs, and we need to police our own, and that's the problem.

Go to any public boat launch and there will be a trash can and it won't be used or will be overflowing with residencial garbage, and mattresses and such.

Too many people who don't care!

Rant over, but I will send an email.

Just one more cast!
