1.75 a dozen is cheap. Try 3-3.50 a dozen in the metro mess. I wouldn't worry about it unless it becomes normal business. Just mention it next time you buy minnows from the same store. Usually they will be glad to help you out.

Jacob,
Switching from minnows to jigs isn't easy...especially if you are so accustomed to have success with minnows. However, once you really get a hang of jig fishing, it is twice as fun and much much cheaper, and catch more fish too. If you are still not comfortable of switching, make an effort to have both on the boat.
Promise yourself that you would dedicate on jig fishing for the first 3rd of your trip...if you can't get them to hit as many times in compare to minnows, you can always have your reserved minnow on board. Gradually work yourself into having confident of using a jig effectively....
Soon, you will realize that minnows are obsoleted!!! (99% of the time)

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm going to work on jigging more. What about a jig on the bottom hook and a minnow on top? ...I sound like an addict.
My name is Jacob and I'm addicted to live bait. frown

A 1/2 pound of fair sized minnows averages out to between 4-5 dozen. I never understood why people would short folks on bait. Honestly, for them it's only a losing proposition that will eventually hurt their business. It's been a few years since I worked at a bait store, but back then, we paid around 3.00 a pound for them, so there was already a decent markup on them.

Jacob I use minnows too! and I fish with jigs also. But let me tell you jigs are alot of work and I mean alot of work! When I catch fish on jigs it is a lot of fun because you feel the fish hit the jig but if you are not catching fish on jigs you do alot of moving around and at the end of the day you are wore out. But I like to fish my favorite spots by putting out two or three rods and sitting back with a friend or family and just talking, joking around you know having fun, relaxing just taking it easy. Now that is fishing and all because you fish with minnows. If you don't believe me just keep reading this form listen to what the other fisherman say they all have forgot about just having fun FISHING.

Doug, how is fishing a jig like work? If you are working the jig that much...no wonder you prefer minnows. Fish the jig just like a minnow. Ya Dead Still works!!

One of the biggest problems with minnow fishing is that the minnows give ya the false expectation that the minnows are gonna eventually "draw um in" (They won't!)and it is much harder to change locations while having to deal with trying to keep them alive on a hook while you move the boat. Makes ya reluctant to move when you really need to. Do not wait for fish to come to you, no fish in 10 minutes...MOVE. Fishing jigs allow you to change locations freely and frequently. Catch a few on a BP and it stops...Move then come back to that pile later.

I would be careful when buying minnows from the Valero near the north end of Lavon...two separate fishing trips I asked for 4 dozen minnows....I'll bet I didn't have over 30.

Thank you Lord for the gifts in my life
