Taking the kids and wife to LL today when I get off work and I haven't been out there in 2 months just wondering if anybody has been hitting any sandies or hybrids lately, I want to get the kids on some fish so I probably won't be doing much fishing but its always fun to see them hook on to one! Any advice would be gladly appreciated!

If you have a cast net , catch bait and sit just on the north edge of the 121 cut. Big hybrids have been hitting shad there. If no cast net, troll glow or white sassy shad over the humps around the cut. Sandies are schooling under the birds and humdingers( Lil Georges) (Academy) and MIce are working well, rather small fish but still fun for the kids on a Zebco.
Good Luck

Thanks for the advice! I was thinking the cut or deadman's point would be the way to go, do you know if any hybrids are running by those points that are on the other side of the island by the 35 bridge?

Thanks for the advice! I was thinking the cut or deadman's point would be the way to go, do you know if any hybrids are running by those points that are on the other side of the island by the 35 bridge? Last week I was on the inside of that 121 cut fishing that point on the north side that sticks way out and caught fish but all small. The week before I had anchored on pockurs hump looking for hybrids and couldn't get out of the catfish. I was sitting in 42 fow. That same trip I checked the island your talking about but didn't see anything worth stoping for. Doesn't mean that they are not there now. Just reporting what I seen.

Don't now about the other side of the bridge but when we were out yesterday the water at deadmans was terribly stained. Not suitable for hybrid fishing with bait due to low visibility. I like clear water with the wind blowing me into a rise or hump.Sunday should be ideal as it will be a north west wind that will blow you into some good places. bait is easy any time of the day too.

Yes, we had a great time yesterday catching those Hybrids (we didn't have to unhook a single sandbass), and his daughter caught a 4 to 5 lbs blue catfish. Then we caught something that weighed about 3000 lbs and had 5 people inside it. We released it inside a slip in Pier 121 marina If your going out, and you don't have Boat Tow insurance, you should have a couple of cold beers .

caught about 12 sandies the last two saturdays. was fishing for lmb both times and the sandies just appeared on top all of a sudden for awhile. caught em on crank baits and rattle traps.
2 weeks ago it happened just west of the 35 bridge on the north shore and last week it was on the main lake side of the old dam and near the tower bay boat ramp.
they left as suddenly as they appeared.

Michael, what was more fun, catching the bait or the fish?? After all, you are the "baitmaster"

Oops time to delete this thread. I'M SORRY YOU MUST HAVE THE WRONG "MICHAEL" (there's millions of us out there along with guys that enjoy throwing a castnet for bait :)).... I'm the "Michael" they refer to as a, well, "TGWOHAEC" (yeah!!! that's it).... "That Guy who often has and enjoys catching Bait " ... oh, and I hear that that other Michael (Tall, Dark, Handsome, with 2% body fat, is now called "BaitGuru" (LOL!!!). Actually it was fun catching bait, but pdeibert001 and his daughter, already had the tanks stocked with big shad they kept bigger baits (normally I throw bait that size back and keep the smaller ones), but that kept those Sandbass off of us (they came up around the boat several times. Those Hybrids are the closest thing to Saltwater fishing, in the Dallas area.. and just when you think you have them under control, they are back out there (fight similar to a small Cobia).

Went out today for about 3-4 hours ... had to interrupt my fishing for some frantic business calls related to the house purchase (I hate I hate I HATE cellphones - they're freaking electronic handcuffs!). Despite the lost time I still had a good day. Caught 9 hybrids & 11 sandies - not a single undersized hybrid to be had today & about half the sandbass were keepers. Sandbass were hitting slabs, but only got one hybrid on the jig. All other fish came on live shad, as I could not get them to bite anything else. Whatever works, works - you can call me baitmaster if you like (I think Boston Bob refers to me as "Master Baitman" or something close to that lol). Fish were in 16-22 feet.
Decided when I'd had enough hybrids for the afternoon to give the rest of my shad to some guys in a bass boat who looked like they were having a hard time netting some up. When I left, they had bent rods!!
Also, had another of those strange hybrids ... markings of a hybrid, but the body shape & head of a striper. I'm convinced those doggone fish do breed in the lake - both with the sandbass & with each other!

Zeek, they DO reproduce. I read some time back the TPWD found cases of hybrids reproducing in lake Palestine and a few others. They apparently can mate with whites and maybe even pure stripers. There are too many odd sized(read: "age") hybrids in LL for them not to be naturally reproducing. DTA has suspected for years, as have i, and seeing them reacting the way they do in places like Hickory, Pecan and Rowlett creeks(down at RH), it is awful hard to believe they don't make little hybrids, no matter what science says!(shades of Jurassic Park, "They found a way!")
Hope to get out there soon and in on all that action!
In the meantime, "Go getcha some!"
