A Friend of mine knows a GW who stopped by his place last night to borrow my Friend's 12 foot Crappie stick. He said he wanted to "Sweep" Bass with it. My Friend inquired as to what "Sweeping Bass" was to which the GW explained that it was taking a long pole, running the line from reel though the rod guides except for the last two before the tip then attach a buzzbait to the line.
GW said he found it on a Google search. We looked up "Sweeping Bass today and only came up with a Bass guitar technique.
ANYWAY, To fish this rig, you drag the rod tip in the water to create a commotion with the buzzbait following. It's supposed to be used with holes in thick moss here in the swamp etc.
Any input from any that know is appreciated.

Use to do that many many years ago with my Dad. We used a 16 to 18 ft cane pole. Would tie the tip of the pole back to the main part of the pole and leave it for a couple of weeks so it would form a permanent bend. Tied a short length (about 2 feet) of braid (90 to 100 lb test), on the pole. Put a strip of red flannel cloth and a white pork strip on large hook. We would ease along shaking the pole so the tip would beat the water. Worked in along as someone paddled the boat (did not know what a trolling motor was then), most times worked a figure 8 pattern. Always did it just before dark or during the night, maybe just before sunup. Just did not seem to work during the day. We called it jigger fishing. Let me tell you that you get a 7 or 8 pound bass on the end of 2 foot of line on 18 foot cane pole and the battle was on. Lots of fun......

Thanks for that input. This sounds like a kindergarten version of yall's style. I'm going to try it with a cane pole 1st.

I grew up fishing with a man who was a master at doodle-socking. It'll get your arm yanked off if you use it in the right places. This is a big fish technigue that the old timers have used for ages. It takes patience though. You can use a big jig/trailer, prop-bait, jitterbug, big worm, etc... not just limited to a buzzbait. Mike - those lakes you fish in LA with all the cypress groves and weeds are perfect places to learn how to do this.
the fisherman formerly known as Blu-Ranger....

I just read about this technique, it is supposed to look like your bait is trying to eat the commotion that you are making with your pole. The Chase! I have not tried it, but sounds like fun.
you know, nothing wrong with seven men who met on the internet going for a swim together

Thanks for the input folks! I get the idea. I can think of some certain lakes and areas this could be effective on!
