I will tell you what I do and a lot of guys don't like to use a swivle but I do.
I tie a snap swivel on the end of my line coming from the reel. Then I tie a 16 inch leader in the same cirle at the top of the snap swivel. Then I put a snap swivel on the end of the leader and snap the slab on the end of the leader. With the weight of the slab this makes the top swivel stick out from the line. This is the one I snap the jig or tag-a-long into. This gives me option of quickly changing the slab or the jig without retieing or cutting line. Most guys don't like my rig but I have been using for over forty years and it works better for me than anything I have tried.

I'm stupid.
I tie a Jigum Jigs Tag-Along on with a loop knot and leave a very long tag line. Then I tie the slab to the tag end.

Haven't lost anything that way yet but I don't fish in hybrids water very often either.

I rig mine like Jeff above. I have lost a few at the fly because I didn't take the time to get the dropper loop knot correct. It is a tricky knot, at least for me but if you get it right it works. I have caught hundreds of sand bass on one rig up w/out having to re-tie. In fact I've had them tear up the flies or tear the hooks off of the slab before having to re-tie. I also have not fished this rig much in Hybrid territory & don't think I would even try it for Stripers unless I was in a school of dinks. It's my favorite way to catch sandies though, 2 @ a time. Sorry I don't have a pic.

I was not arguing that my way is the best I just answered the guys question. All I said I can chage slab and tag-a-long without retieing if something else seems to be working.

Johnny,
I didn't mean anything by my "I'm stupid" comment. That was just my turrets coming out. grin

Besides that..I am stupid. I could learn a better knot for that application...but....I'm stupid. thumb

Just see who is the stupid one here. I just can not tie the loop knot. I have tried and tried and sometimes it works. A couple of guys on LL just tie a cinch knot and leave a long tag end for the slab. This works and I have landed hybrids on this set up, but have lost a few also. The best solution is to just fish the slab when the hybrids are lurking in the area.
A similar set up to sandjohnny's is using a swivel. Tie the swivel to the line and then tie two leaders to the bottom of the swivel. Then tie a slab to one and a flies by night to the other.

I like Johnny's method the swivel snap makes for a quick change
of lures and If they bite any better without the snap, then My
heart probably couldn't take the pressure anyway. Sometimes
it is hard for old tired eyes to see to tie leaders anyway.
Ain't that right Johnny

Just in case ya'll didn't get the down low. I do the Tag-a-Longs. Matthew got too busy making his Crappie jigs...yeah, I know, big shoes to fill, but I'll try.

I've got to try Sandjohnny's method, I borrowed from the Blck Bass fishermen.Tie on the fly with a Palomar knot leaving a very long tail on to which you tie on the slab or spoon.
