All, I have a friend who will be down there with his son and a bunch of scouts camping out. Are there any fishing opportunities?

We were there a few weeks ago and they put in 2500 trout or so. I caught a few then. That lake seems to have enough cover for some bass and catfish along the larger lake has some tree stumps for bass. Nice park by the way.

My wife and I were out at the park last year for the 4th of july weekend. While at hale lake we spotted a very large fish moving around in hale lake. One of the locals told us it was an alligator around 12 to 14 ft long. And no it was not an alligator so i do believe him. The tail is a dead give away. I'd love to hook something that size.

Its a great park to take the kids fishing for the day. I live about 30 minutes away so it's my quick fix spot. We catch small trout and bass with worms and shiners. There are 4 or 5 lakes with piers or good bank shade. The alligators are a different story. When they move in the fish disappear.
Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he'll buy a funny hat. Talk to a hungry man about fish, and you're a consultant - Scott Adams

Son and I used to fish there before we got a boat. We live about 30 minutes away too. That's where my son got his start bass fishing.
When we first started fishing it (7 years ago), there was quite a bit of open water. The last several years, it gets over grown really bad with weeds. Completely choked out.
We used to do pretty good there on Elm Lake. It's got 7 or 8 piers on it that allow you good access to the water. Nothing big but it was still fun. Once the weeds covered everything, the fishing really went downhill. I haven't been out there in about a year.
atexan is right about the gators. Seeing someone fishing, is like ringing the dinner bell for them. They'll follow you when you are fishing. Kinda eerie. At times, there can be 3 or 4 out in the water where you're fishing. When you hang into one, they'll try to steal it from you. Sometimes it's a race to see if you can get it in before they get to it. Once I was standing on a pier fishing, I looked down and there was one under my feet. Laying very quiet in case I caught one.
It's a really neat place. You'd never know that you are less than an hour away from one of the largest cities in the US.
