I'm sure the truth is in the middle somewhere but it is not sounding good for the guy. I read the other story as well and it just sounds like it all could have been handled a bit differently.

i watched Velvick on the basscast deal- and his marshall asked about it... from what i heard velvick say- it wasnt very good at all. Said langill moved right on top of Ducketts fish. said he would probably be banned for life.... ouch.

Langill has not done well other that one tournament last year at Oneida. I bet his finances are starting to get to him and he was frustrated. Duckett is no stranger to GVille so I believe his side of the story more than Langill. Sounds like it did get ugly though.

I saw the picture of the two of them arguing at the dock. I haven't heard details yet. Thanks for the link Mark.

I'm curious about this statement....

Duckett said Langill pulled up next to him and caught a couple of fish on day 1. He said he filed a protest against Langill at the conclusion of the day, and that other anglers who'd been in the vicinity had also brought the encroachment issue to tournament director Trip Weldon's attention.

Taken from http://www.bassfan.com/news_article.asp?id=3283

"Encroachment Issue" what is that?

Sounds like to me Duckett was mad about other people fishing his 100 yard grass bed? Not just Langill.

Does BASS have a 50 yard rule? I remember Velvick and Martins getting into it on Falcon two years ago.

Sounds like they heard testimony from a lot of people who observed the whole deal and weren't directly involved before they made their decision. The bad part was what happened on Saturday. That was just idiotic on Langills part. How many sponsors are going to back away after what he did? He shot himself in the foot.

What was interesting is that Langill's marshall said he didn't believe he did anything wrong. If B.A.S.S. and Stren would incorporate a 25 yard rule this wouldn;t be an issue. I don't know why they leave it up to the angler's to decide. One pro's definition of close may be completely different than another's.

Like Mark said, the truth is perhaps somewhere in the middle, especially on Day 2. However, what Langill did on Day 3 is not in dispute, at all. The guy made a public scene at the dock (a big no-no with BASS)and then proceeded to launch his boat and head to the grass bed with no intention other than confronting Boyd Duckett and disrupting Boyd's Day 3.

There is no room in our sport for Langill's childish, unsportsmanlike conduct. His sponsors should all drop him and BASS should issue a balance of season ban, without refund of entry fees, at the very least.

There is a post on bassfan.com "Interact" from a spectator who witnessed the entire string of events on Friday. The specatator noted that there were five Elite anglers in the area, and that Boyd and Grant Goldbeck were sharing the same grassbed/hump, about 100 yards apart from one another. Langill pulled in between the two of them and started fishing. Very por sportsmanship, at the very least.

I think Langill could have survived the whole deal if he would have taken the ruling of Trip & moved on. His whole problem & the reason he will probably never fish @ that level again is his attitude & all of the negative publicity he has generated for the sport.

Some times even if you are sure you are right the best thing you can do is sit down & shut up.

I think Langhill was in the wrong here, he let his emotions get away from him. But its not unheard of for the more successful pros to attempt to intimidate guys like Langhill.

The bothersome part of this for me is that Langhill's marshalls are standing up for him. That puts the whole thing in doubt.

The truth probably is in the middle, I would guess.

that rank of anglers knows better than to tread on anothers water. langill knew better and got caught, then threw a tantrum.
