i don't have any problems with the knot breaking, it is just any little kink will break the line. I wasn't having this problem with the red label though--it is just tough to cast & hard to manage (memory)

Mono backing braid main line and a floro leader. a little extra work in the beginning but no hassles out on the water and sensitivity is awesome!!!!!!

Works For Me!

No, you're not the only one. I don't like fluoro and don't use it. Too brittle, too much memory, breaks too easily...

I post this every now and then for the new fluoro users.

I have been using fluoro almost exclusively for over a year and a half now and this is what I have found out so far:

You get what you pay for in Fluoro. I use both the Invisx and the Berkley 100%. I like the Invisx for the lighter applications and Berkley for the heavier stuff. (20 and 25 lb for flipping) Both have proven strong for me with the edge to the Berkley. IMO, The InvisX is the better finesse line because it is more pliable. I use 15lb InvisX for finesse applications on Fork. I can get away with lighter line (10-12) when fishing out of the cover. I wish that InvisX came in a 17 lb. version.

Fluoro just does not have as much initial stretch as mono. I need to make sure that I use a rod that is appropriate with the size fluoro that I am using. I can snap the 15 and 17 lb. fluoro on the hookset with a rod that is too stiff, but it takes a glove on the hand to break the 17 lb. when hung up. The 20 or 25 lb Berkley 100% are better suited for flipping and close range hook sets with a stiffer type rod. Just dont use lighter fluoro with stiff rods.

The knot is important as we all know. Bottom line for me is using the San Diego Jam knot, and having the right rod stiffness as it relates to the size of fluoro being used. The SDJ knot is hard to tie the wrong way once you get it down. It also causes less friction when tightening the knot which is important with Fluoro.

I also get more usage out of good fluoro than mono. I just stretch the line out (30-40 yards) and run a thin cloth down the line that is soaked in conditioner to check for nicks. If no nicks, the line stays on the reel. The 1 or 2 reels that I have mono on get changed more frequently than the reels with fluoro because I find that the mono is softer and more vulnerable to nicks.

Once I got used to the increased sensitivity and less stretch that fluoro provides, I never looked back to mono.

Like anything new, it's takes some getting used to. I hope this helps anyone experimenting with the fluoro.

Dang Mike, You miss a lot of fish per cast!

I use P Line and it works for me.

I have been using fluoro exclusively for a while now, and have no problems with it. As others have said, it is far more sensitive. I feel like I've been shot-up with novacaine when I fish with mono now.

The thing I don't like about fluor is that its no good on a spinning reel IMO. Unless its a fresh spool, it has too much memory for a spinning rig. I don't have that problem with a casting reel.

The thing is, you need to know the limitations of any line you use, thats why there is more than one type. Fluoro soaks up water and sinks, so you definately do not want to use it on topwaters. I personally use Trilene 15lb Big game in Green for my topwaters. I don't want to use fluor or mono for fishing around heavy cover, therefore, I use 50lb Test Power Pro for Frogs, Jigs, and Swim Baits. For Everything Else, I use either 10lb Trilene 100% Fluoro, or 15lb P-Line. There you have my personal choices.

I love flouro in 17lb or bigger. Any of the smaller sizes not so much. If you give it a chance I beleive it will put more fish in the boat for anyone. Atleast 3 times as sensitive as any mono. I like the Berkley 100% best. The Bps is not worth the time to put it on a reel IMO. I just spray it down with KVD when i get done fishing for the day. I can get about 3 trips out of it before I respool.
1 OF THE MAJOR THINGS PEOPLE DO WRONG WITH FLOURO IS PULL IT HARD AND STRETCH IT WHEN THEY HANG UP. THIS WILL RUIN ANY SIZE AND BRAND OF FLOURO!! IF YOU HANG UP GO GET YOUR LURE AND DONT TRY TO RIP IT FREE. IF YOU DO HAVE TO PULL OR BREAK IT OFF(DEEP HANG UP) DONT PULL IT AGAINST THE LINE ON THE REEL. iT WILL CUT ITSELF ON THE SPOOL AND BREAK YOU OFF ON THE NEXT HOOKSET. MY 2CENTS

I hear you guys about the frustrations of dealing with flouro. I was the same way at first, kept backlashing and breaking off etc. Once you throw a C-rig/crankbait/T-rig/football jig with this stuff I think you will start to understand the advantages. I always use the KVD Line conditioner/Reel Magic to keep the memory and stiffness out of the line. You must also leard to tie a palomar or uni-knot 100% of the time with flouro or you will break it.

I tried to go back to mono after I used flouro, and hated the amout of stretch it has. With flouro you will get much more sensitivity, not to mention it is next to invisible. I would say I can feel a lure 60-70% better with flouro.

I use mono backing and 40 yards of Fluro. On a 200 yrd spool I can get 5 reels spooled of one pack of line. I use a palomar knot and am very careful to make the knot slow with moisture to prevent friction on the line. Use a loose drag and you should have no problem.

I use Big Game on most rods but do use Seaguar Invisx on my spinning rods. I caught a 7 plus this year w/ 10lb and it wrapped itself on something and when I finally got her out I was convinced it is worth the money.

KVD Line & Lure conditioner will really help with the stiffness and memory experienced with flouro. Makes it handle more like mono. It will also help the line last a lot longer, which saves money on line. Check out KVD Line & Lure
