The only lake that I rated that I have never fished is Amistad! However, I dont think that too many people question Amistad's claim to a top 5 spot. As for the other lakes, I have fished them all; I fish Choke every week, Falcon every month, Conroe several times a year, and I have fish Fork at least 20 times in my life. Now, I have not fished Fork recently, but I am able to read up on it, and like Amistad I dont think that too many people would argue that it does not deserve to be in there.

I really dont understand these people, that I dont even know, that come out and try and make me look bad. Heres a hint; make sure that you know what you are talking about before you try and make me look bad!

However, bcause this lake may have produced a ton of records and sharelunkers, people will list it near the top even though other lakes have passed it up in the present day.

Do you not understand that with these statements you like to place yourself as the authority on the subject while you discount the opinions of others as somehow misguided?!

Epic, I would like you to show me where I discounted anyone's opinion on this topic. All I did was give mine. I was not calling any one out, nor was I making a personal attack at anyone. All I said was that peoples answers are going to be influenced by the area that they live. Is this not true? I stayed very general and broad in all my comments!

You are the one that started getting personal and attacking opinions, not me! Are you so caught up with yourself that you cant see that? I have done nothing to you and I dont want to do anything to you. I congratulated you on all of your great fish and am sure that you fish some very good lakes. Just relax and have a good one, this is just a fun topic where we can throw a shout out to our favorite lakes!

However, bcause this lake may have produced a ton of records and sharelunkers, people will list it near the top even though other lakes have passed it up in the present day.

Also, when you say best lake, what do you constitute as best. Best for big fish, best for numbers, or a combo of the two! Bottom line is that you will get a bunch of different answers based on the person answering.

I will try to give an unbiased opinon, based on the present day, and give a little info on why its the best!

1. Falcon - Just ask the pros. KVD said it was the best in the world after the elite series last year. On this lake you have to have at least 35 lbs to have a chance at a tourny, and the poplulation of 5-8 lbers is crazy. This lake is on a whole nuther level. Numbers and size!

2. Choke Canyon - Though numbers are down this year, sharlunkers are pouring in. I credit this to more lines in the water, the fish were always there. My dad says Choke is now, what Fork was in the 80s! You can have 40 fish days of 2-3 lbers; or slow it down, fish deep, and catch a wall hanger. You need about 30 lbs to be in the money at most tournys! Size and numbers!

3. Conroe - This is the most under-ratted lake in TX by most anglers, because of its large recreation crowd! However, it is plum full of bass, along with other species! Fish wise, I compare it to Choke Canyon every time I fish it. Lots of 2-3 lbers; but you can trophy hunt if you know where to get em! Many tournys see bags of over 30 lbs! This lake has more sharelunkers than any lake other than Fork!

4. Amistad - This lake has about the same populations and size as Falcon, Choke, and Conroe; but they can be a little harder to catch. When it is on, this lake is hard to beat. However, it shuts down more than the other three. However, it also has smallies, something the others do not! Most tourny's see bags of 25-30 lbs!

5. Fork - Traditionally, Fork is the number one lake in TX! However, it has lost ground to other lakes over the past couple of years due to heavy fishing pressure. However, the fish are still there, they are just harder to catch than they used to be. This lake might very well produce TX's first 20 lber if Choke or Falcon doesnt do it first.

So, there you have it! I think that those 5 lakes will pop up the most amongst answers, though the orders might be mixed up. Like I said, Conroe is under-ratted by most anglers but it should be in there. I fish Choke on a daily basis, and falcon regularly; and I say that Conroe is just a hair behind them!

Everyone lists Amistad, Falcon, Choke, Fork, etc. I would have to put a little lake in west Texas. Lake Stamford. Check out www.stillwatersbassclub.org
May 2, 2009 Tournament
at Stamford Lake

The May 2nd tournament was held at Lake Stamford and began with a very cool misty morning with a north wind blowing. The less than desirable beginning did not fortell the great fishing that was had on this day as 76 people weighed over 700 pounds of bass at the weigh in. Many fishermen weighed their 3-fish stringers for an average of 3.89 pounds per fish.

1st place = 3 fish - 19.99 lbs
2nd place = 3 fish - 18.04 lbs
3rd place = 3 fish - 17.18 lbs
4th place = 3 fish - 16.78 lbs
13th place = 3 fish - 13.88 lbs

Big Bass:

1st place = 10.05 lbs
2nd place = 8.99 lbs

76 people - 181 fish - 703.51 lbs - 3.89 pound average

Well, All you Texas Guys have fun with arguing about your favorite lakes and such but know that only California and maybe Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee can come close to matching the size and numbers of Bass caught. OK, maybe South Carolina too.

Dang! What if you had to fish a lake in new york or some such???

All I'm saying is outside looking in, most of you folks have it made. I'm 45 mins from 6 lakes and an hour away from 12. Wish I could just learn one of them real good!

Have Fun! flag cheers

Wow, those are good numbers, ecspecially if conditions are like you say they were. Very similar to what is seen from Falcon and Choke under similar conditions.

If I were you I would deleat your post and try to keep it a secrete!
