Hey ya'll.. I was fishing on the elm fork of the trinity today. Just south of Hwy 380 in denton. (did pretty well, 1 5 lb cat, 1 3 lb cat, two small sand bass, and a nice drum). Ran into another guy there, he was fishing by the 380 bridge and said that one of the local news crews was out there filming a segment for the news because a lot of fish were trapped. They told him that a little further east where 380 goes over the greenbelt right by lake lewisville that fish were trapped. We drove over there and you could see a large amount of dead carp and some bass floating.. If i were to guess I would say you could see at least a couple hundred dead fish washing ashore there. Anybody know what happened? From where they were there was water all the way to the lake... so they didnt seem trapped. I wonder what gives.. Sorry for such a long post

TPWD stated that when the water rose/receded last week it trapped a huge number of fish in that pond. Essentially they suffocated because there are to many fish for the limited amount of oxygen. They did say it was primarly rough fish. I am sure you could get on the TPWD website and there should be more info.

I'm sure you saw on the news by now, decaying vegetation that had washed up from storms had used up the oxygen and that is what killed the fish. Like you said, mostly carp and lack of oxygen.
