Caorlina rigged mostly but using a boat they are taken drifting bait under floats of some kind.
You would be better served getting a topo map of teh lake and if you are fishing from shore look for where creeks come close to the banks you can get to.

Just saying. Anyone looking for help on the lake and wants to catch some redfish should give Jackie a call 903-603-3793. He's been snowed under with catfish trips on cedar creek lately but i'd bet you wouldnt have to twist his arm too hard to get him to make a trip the redfish hole. He's a good guide and an excellent teacher. It's money well spent if you want to have a good time with a good guy and learn a lot for future trips. I may have to do that myself..been thinking its time to try some red fishing

Heaven only knows what tackle the questioner might try to use.
Somebody who questions if he needs to be fishing with a "Bopper" or "on the bottom" needs a whole lot more help than what RF's offered or just a Hot Spot Map alleging it provides the Fairfield fishing holes.
Who would you think located most of the current seasonally productive FF holes and knows how to fish them productively. When was the Hot Spots map first produced? How low was the lake when those spots were supposedly found? Do those spots even have water in them yet? PS the Hot Spot map came in my GPS, the bottom contours are wrong in many places, but a non-boater might never figure that out.
Providing the questioner would hang in there for RF's suggested learning method one would still waste years of trial and error attempts to figure out fishing in general and the red fishing style needed for FF. Wasting plenty of money on repetitive trips buying gas, park entrance fees, and potentially buying useless tackle.
When Jackie could teach them in less than 4-6 hours how and why his method and tackle is so productive, and they would have a great trip as they learned.
I have been there, done it, know what it took almost without Jackie's help, have plenty of pictures of me with my progressively larger fish and own the well worn out Tee sheets.

Does anyone have any help for those of us that dont have 350 to spend? You dont have to give up your honey hole but maybe how to rig bait might help other people on the board.

The reds are easy to figure out on Fairfield. When I started fishing it, a long time ago, I took a trip with a guide down there, got two bites, maybe reds maybe not. I didn't really like his methods and results even less. I started fishing it regularly and over a period of time I managed to begin catching a few. I stayed at if for a long time and got it down pat. The only problem with pat is sometimes it works excellent and sometines it doesn't work at all. About the time I get it they change. Many things come into play when redfishing on Fairfield. Oh yeah lots of people go down and post great photos and results, its not so hard on a one or two trip outing, every now and then. When it's easy anyone and everyone can do it, when it's tough very few, if any do it. They also don't bother to tell you of the times they go and blank, catch zero, zip, nada. I guarantee if you fish it a good bit it will throw you as much as you perfect it. I'm a guide on the lake, and have shown many what I know and the methods I use. I do attempt to make a living, or what resembles one, being a fishing guide. I can't control the weather or the feeding patterns of fish. I will guarantee you I will put you in positions and spots to give you the best shot at catching reds on Fairfield. Ask anyone who has fished with me if I charge them when I have a bad or very slow day/night. Fishing with a guide is not for everyone and I fully understand that. If I'm going to a lake I don't know, a guide is my first order of business. Be dadgum if I'm going to spend countless hours and gas trying to learn to do something that someone can show me in a single trip. My website speaks for itself: http://www.jackiekennedyfishingguide.com/

Well said, jackie! I have fished with jackie and can attest to the fact that he definetly knows what he's doing on Fairfield Lake. I have been there at least a half dozen times fishing without his assistance and lake smarts and I'm still figuring the lake out. I struggle sometimes when I'm there but the one time I was there with jackie, we had 8 reds in the cooler before 7:30 AM. Nuff said........

Thanks for the advice about hire a guide but i will try to do it on my own. I just bought a map booklet with all the redfish hot spots at Fairfield. My main question is do u fish with a bopper or all the way at the bottom. I will be using shrimp.
thanks again
Use shrimp already cooked (Walmart frozen food section). Get the big sized shrimp and let it thaw out. You can fish on the bottom or a bobber. I would recommend a popping cork if your going to use a bobber to move the bait and make some noise. You will need to use/try different methods to entice the fish to strike, once you find them.

I have split a few Jackie trips with guys off of TFF. Jackie taught me how to catch these Reds a few years ago now, but I still book a few trips a year with him on Fairfield and he always has a new method or two that helps me get fish in the boat when he is not with me. I have pics of over two hundred Reds I caught solo between June and August of last year and every one was caught using his tricks of the trade.
