So we've all probably brought in that one fish that was still a little too green but didn't want to lose it. I've been thinking about swapping out my lure hooks that have treble hooks. It's a hair raising experience to see that fish slapping around you SOT with extra hooks exposed looking for your flesh...
Anyone swap there hooks out before? I am willing to miss a fish our two to keep me out of the ER (Hook in the Crotch would be a great one to explain to the ER Nurse). Gimmie your thoughts or other solutions...

Just dont use treble hooks and get a fly rod(or four or five of them)
It's more than the catfish would do.

If I have a larger green fish, (and don't have my net with me), I will pull him up along the gunwale of the yak and hold him down with one hand while I put the rod in a holder.

I've taken all of the front treble hooks off of my crankbaits that I use for yak fishing. I leave the rear treble on. They hang up on everthing in the boat and in the water, mainly when trolling.
I don't think I have missed any fish with out them. Even if I do they are probably too small to worry about.

There was article in Gulf Coast Connections a few months back about replacing the treble hooks in lures w/ circle hooks. I have no Idea how you would go about finding that an old copy though.

When the grass gets bad on the flats I have a replacement set of Spook jrs I bring off the bench with single hooks on them. The hooks I use are made by gamakatsu, http://www.gamakatsu.com/new_products/new_livebaithdring.htm, and as you will see come with a ring preattached to the eye so your hooks can swing more freely from your bait. I haven't noticed much of an impediment in the spook's action and it really keeps the grass down if you attach the hooks so they present the point swept back towards the tail of the bait. I have also done this on a couple of the crankbaits I use on the flats with similar results.
