i was at the packery channel on the island and this lady fisherwoman caught this thing that looks like a big [censored] snail. it is the color and texture almost of a dogfish but its back looks like it has wings kind of like a stingray and when she touched it her hand went numb. anybody know what it was?

I did a quick image search using inkfish (thanks Bill) and found a reference to sea hares. I searched those with google images and came up with a critter that matches your description - take a look blove and see if this is it.

I was doing some reading on the creatures and I guess they occasionally have problems in places like Australia with sea hares washing up on beaches, being eaten by dogs and the dogs subsequently dying rather nasty deaths. The ink-type stuff produced (they apparently make at least three different colored inks) has been shown to produce paralysis, but hardly anything is really known about these critters. So maybe the woman actually got pretty lucky getting only a numb hand. Who knows.

I think they're in the mollusca phylum. If you wanted to do some research on it.
