I am fired up! Just made reservations for a cabin for June 14-19 in Rockport. My brother and I will be traveling down and getting some fishing in. It has been several years since we have got to bayfish together.
Any advice, tips, secrets will be more than appreciated! I will take all the advice I can get. The week before is full moon so we should have hardly any moon to fight. I know some of you guys can put me on some fish. Thanks in advance!

Ive been down in rockport the last three weekends in a row and despite the horrible wind, ive done preaty well..the pier fishing at night has been great and will only get beeter in the months to come..at night ive been throwing black/chartruse norton sand eel jrs. and this weekend i got some croaker and all my bigger fish were caught off the croaker...between me and my brother we probably caught over 200 fish off the pier this weekend...During the day we waded in front of laguna reef and caught some nice reds off live shrimp under popping cork and crab. Hope this helps u out. Good luck

Hey TroutHunter. What pier have you been fishing? We were thinking about driving over From Port A Saturday night for some pier fishing.

If the wind isn't blowing too hard and the water on the beach in Port A. isn't dirty, your best bet at night would be the Horace Caldwell pier on the beach. Fish up shallow, you'll see all the huge trout in there. They won't hit shrimp or lures. Buy you a sabiki rig, the ones that are white with the red bead heads, use the sabiki to catch shad under the lights further out on the pier. The shad die very fast so have a five gallon bucket 3/4 full of water with a good bubbler on it. Catch about ten shad, just put a weight on the sabiki, drop it straight down, and jig it next to the pier. Use just a medium size treble hook on your line, NOTHING ELSE, no weight, thats very important. Hook the shad through the top of the eyes and chunk em out there, reel in slowly and if the trout are there i guarantee you will have the time of your life catching specs. I grew up down there, been doing it all my life. Good luck...

I know you guys probably dont want to hear this, because you are talking big fish. I am taking my kids to Port A this July. I was hoping somebody could tell me a good place to catch Pinfish, or other small fish from land so they will have a good time. They are 3 and 7 Yrs. old. Also at the same time where I can try and catch bigger. Thanks for the help in advance. Any Harbors / Docks open to public fishing?

For both, I would go to one of the smaller public piers like Mcgee park by the ferryboat landing since it has a playground for when they get a little bored.
You can take them both on the Island Queen even though the 7 year old will get more out of it. A great adventure for the kids and there is the chance of catching a big one. Last time I was tangling with a shark somewhere around 75 - 100 lbs but lost him when my line freyed on the hull bottom. I have caught several bull reds off this boat.
There are places all allong the causway between Port A and AP where you can wet a line with kids. Try and be there on a falling tide. They can catch hermit crabs and chase fiddler crabs when they get tired of fishing.

There are 3 free piers in Port A that will provide all the piggys your kids can catch. Charlie's Pasture, Roberts Point Park and the Station Street pier. Just make sure you use long shank hooks to make unhooking the fish easier. Good luck.

Trout hunter is right ... those hotel piers can be great at night, especially for numbers of trout. Try small Spin-Traps or Night-Glo soft plastics around 11 p.m. and later, and you'll be amazed at the action.
Just be sure to measure them, as 14-1/2-inch specks will make up a lot of the catch, and have to be released.
And by the way, ditto on Laguna Reef ... a great place with an excellent pier.
Good luck ...
