This is my third time out fishing in my new boat and it was my first day to catch something. Me and the sis and her husband were on the hunt for sand bass in the brazos and in the upper part of Lake Whitney. I caught 3 sand bass and my brother in law caught 2. The weird catch of the day was when i thought i had a huge sand bass or a bigger largemouth on my spinner bait until i finally got it to the surface and it was a channel cat. Catching a channel cat on a Strike King spinner bait was a first for me. The funny thing was that this catfish felt like it hit the bait harder than the sand bass. lol.

Those channel cats will take an artificial lure predominantly during the hotter months. Nothing really unusual or weird. One morning early I hit a favorite bass point on Ray Roberts using deep crankbaits and caught 5 channel cats in a row between 24-28" each. They went in the live well and I stocked them in Bear Creek Park when I got home in Keller. This was back in the early 90's.

Nice, hehe. I've caught channels on rooster tails, rattletraps, road runners....they're aggressive fish when they're hungry!

I have caught quite a few channel cats fishing for sand bass, it seems they love to hang out under the shad/sandbass/striper balls waiting for injured baits to drop. A big kastmaster spoon does catch them nicely.

Your pic does make me miss Lake Whitney.

I've had em hit my top water hula popper. Though I was setting a lake record for lmb as first. Huge hit.

I hooked up on a 5 lb flathead on an inline spinner in the Colorado river one time. I wasnt' sure what I had until I got it to my yak.

If I fished for money.........I'd be broke.

I used to catch them trolling at Hubbard quite often. Always on a pinfish when making a 180 deg turn and when the lure was a maximum depth.
