I moved here to Carrollton a few months back from Rockport. Growing up on the coast i did very little freshwater fishing. I have researched as much as possible on fishing for catfish lately and i have to thank all you guys for the info, i've spent countless hours reading all your posts.
Ok guys i'm swallowing my pride here but damn these cats have been skunkin my butt. I've fished Lake Lewisville, Grapevine, and Tawakoni. Out of all these days on these lakes all i have to show for my effort is 2 small cats, sore feet from walking up and down the bank, 2 torn castnets, and one upset wife cause she's tired of hearing me whine and cuss these whisker fish.
Fishing for me is an addiction, as it is for almost any man, i go almost everyday. If anyone ever needs a partner i'm pretty much open any day or night of the week. Again thanks guys for all the info i just need to utilize it the correct way.

I am sure some one here can help but yes it does sound like you should be catching catfish like crazy. Whats your rod and reel set up right now? How big of catfish you going for, 20 small tender fillets or 1-2 big monster catfish? Also catfish aint the only things bitting. Theres Big Mouth Bass, Crappie , Blue gill, pretty much biting now.

My set up right now is an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 6600 and a 7 ft. Med. action Red Tamer 2 Lone Star Supreme Series rod. I'm using 20lb mono with it. I mostly go just for the thrill, i'll keep a few for the grill but i want the monster blues. I live about 15 minutes from Lewisville so that is the lake i spend most of my time at.

Just not the same as fishing the bays and such. Why you gonna catch heck? Bay fishing is Bay fishing and Texas fishing is Texas fishing. Apples and oranges. Salt water and fresh water ,2 different things. From Dallas to the ocean is about 4-5 hours so you could plan weekend trips if you want and fish there.

Ya ,Lake Lewisvelle should not have a problem with catfish even big ones. With that set up you could probably even hit up Denison Damn. I heard of some big catfish comeing out of there. I know theres huge stripers coming out of there. I remember reading people from out of town went there for the stripers.

just a couple of suggestions, first get some danny king from acadmey, orignal flavor. next if you dont have a boat drive north on 35 untill you get to the bridge that crosses lewisville. pull over on the side and fish about 8-10 feet from shore either on the bottom or with a bobber about 3-4 feet deep. You will get snagged if you fish on the bottom but you will also catch fish around the pillers.
Also checkout Hickory Creek park, the coves hold catfish in about 3-4 feet of water.
If you really really want to catch fish, sour up mailo and use a old style coffe can to throw it out. It is a sure thing to bring in cats. if you dont want to deal with the nasy stuff get some range cubes and wait about 20 min. the fish will find it. Hope this helps.
