Looking to buy good used boat but don't know about Javelin boats. What are your thoughts? Thanks. Javelin

Javelin is bascially a Stratos. When OMC went out of business, Genmar picked up Stratos but discontinued the Javelin line. They are very solid boats!

dont get it that is a bad motor What is wrong with the motor? Does it have anything to do with Evinrude/omc going out of biz?

There were alot of problems with the Fitch motors. Not all of them are defective though. I say if you like the boat then buy it. If you are worried about the motor, I am sure that there are plenty of Mechanics on here that would check it out for you. I know of two right off the top of my head.

I owned a 1996 Javelin 400 TDC with a Johnson 225 (basically the same boat). That boat was a very good ride in rough water and it fished well too. It was a great boat and as far as the boat goes, I would say buy it, but if that is a Ficht motor, I would be very leary. I've heard of some horror stories with the Ficht motors. Take it to a mechanic and let them check it out.
As far as it being an '01 bought new in '04...
When OMC went bankrupt and Bombardier bought them, they didn't continue on with the Javelin boat line causing dealerships to still have boats that people were scared to buy. Because of this these dealers had new boats sitting on their showroom floors for several years. There was a boat dealership in Dallas (I believe it was Phil Dill Boats) that was a Stratos/Javelin dealer and this happened to them.
