It's only happened twice now during a 6 week period. When I start the Yukon, none of the guages work. Fuel, speedo, tach, battery, oil pressure..etc don't come on. I can turn the key off and then back on and walah, everything chime's on. Is something going out? Dirty contact maybe??
Any help appreciated!

Gm has a service bulletin out (not a recall) on the dashes in lots of their trucks (mine included). Haven't checked into it a whole lot but it is worth looking into. Mine screws up the spedo about once a month until i turn the truck off then it works fine again.

I've got the same problem with my '05 Envoy...is the dealer replacing them, or is the customer paying for them? I'd think it would be a safety/hazard and the dealer/GM should be taking care of it.....

dealer will charge about 550. i know mitchells garage will charge 250. he can do his in one day. the dealer has to wait two daysfor the instrument cluster to come back from the cluster shop. this is a known failure gm. try for dealer help first. they could split the cost.

GM electronic clusters have sucked forever. can't even tell you how many I've replaced. Speedometer Services, Inc., out of Carrolton, used to be the single authorized repair facility for gm clusters in the SE zone. They have since sold out to another speedo place in Richardson, which I have never used, but you can remove it and take it to them yourself to save some $$. Removal is easy, and the upper dash cover just pops off. remember to disconnect batt., & lower tilt column to lowest pos. to remove cluster. good luck & tight lines -Brian

The speedo screwed up in my wife's '03 Suburban. Then the fuel gauge quit working and oil pressure gauge started acting funny.
The problem is the stepper motors on the backside of the cluster. I bought replacements off Ebay for $40. They come with good instructions. You de-solder the old motors and solder the new ones on. Pretty easy fix. Saved about $200.
I thought the recall was only good for vehicles having less than 70k miles, I could be wrong though.

if gages are the only thing inop maybe cluster, check and see if a/c blower/radio work when this occurs.. maybe just a ignition switch.. seen it many times..

I've got an '03 dmax that the speedometer, volt meter, and oil pressure is messed up. I called Derek Scott's in Hearne. The shop guy said that he can only replace it under the warranty if it has less than 90k miles. Mine currently has 137k. He told me that he could replace it for around $400. That is a whole new dash cluster and reprograming the DIC. I agree that they are junk clusters but I know that 2k RPM in 5th is 70mph. Anything below 70, and I just flow with traffic

I have an 03 silverado and it is the cluster sensor or something like that. Argued for ever with them cause they did not want to pay for it but i finally agreed to pay 80 bucks and they covered the rest.
