Got down to Rockport friday night and the wind was howling. Did some peir fishing that night on the laguna reef peir where we stayed and caught well over 30 trout most being around 14 inches. Around 1 in the morning when the tide started moving caught 4 trout with in 15 minutes between 21 and 23 inches using black/chartruse norton sand eel with rockport rattler jighead. Did not catch one fish all day on saturday until the night. The wind was worse saturday night then it was on friday and ran preaty much every one off the peir which was great for me becuase i was able to work all the lights up and down the peir. The wind had no affect on the bight thow and ended up catching around 30 trout again on saturday. The majority of trout were caught on the very end of peir but all the ones i caught over twenty were caught under second light in about 2 foot of water. The conditions were horrible but the fishing was preaty great. If any ones looking for a nice place to stay with great peir fishing i highly recomend laguna reef. I try to make it down there a couple weekends a month and i will be there this coming weekend. If any one plans on going down this weekend and stays there look for me on the pier, I carry a orange and black back pack with me at all times and ill try to help you out the best possible. If you ever want to stay there call and ask for penny or nicki and tell them ray sent you. They will take good care of you. I hope this info helps yall out.

Hey spec trout, the wind was howling. I was down wade fishing at bird island. Saturday night, only one slot red. Sunday, a few black drum and a red just out of the slot. Could lean against the wind to hold yourself up while wading.
I was snunked, my partner caught all the fish.... We didn't even have any bait stolen (live shrimp).....
Once the wind lets, it will be really good!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys are making me jealous. I've been waiting for this crazy weather to straighten out a bit before I head down there. If the fishing is that good this early on it should be a promising summer. If all goes well I'll be down there in the next few weekends.

We typically fish the same area when we are down there, but this summer we will end up exploring a bit more. Pops picked up 3 of the Pelican Kayaks this last winter so it will be interesting to change it up a bit. Nothing beats getting out there early in the morning and wading the bays. I will definitely take you up on that offer, it will be great to know what kind of water we'll be looking at. I'll be sure to return the favor when I can!
