You'll tend to catch more hardheads on shrimp and in muddy water (chocolate milk colored). Look for greener water. Usually referred to as "trout green".
Use finger mullet, piggie perch and croaker if you like to soak bait. I prefer to use lures as often as I can. I usually catch bigger targeted fish, fewer trash fish and spend less money on bait that ends up dying anyway.

is there water around cc that isnt green? Blove, you WANT THE GREEN WATER. You DO NOT want the chocolate brown water. Brown water BAD. Green water GOOD. Yes there's is green to clear water all around CC but depending on the time of year you'll have to search for it. As summer approaches the water will begin to clear up nicely.

The Blue-Green Algae has taken over just about everything south of the causeway. The water is actually pretty clear, but is misleading because the algae makes the water look cloudy. The fishing down there has been very tough for redfish. Just about the only way that we have gotten on a good bite was to get out and wade areas that we have caught fish in the past. The fish are hanging out down in the grass eating crabs and little shrimp. with the wind blowing out of the south the water should be good until you get down around Pure oil. We have been catching trout while drifting in deeper potholes, guts, and channels. Good luck

If you want to avoid hardheads all together I'd suggest giving both live bait and cut bait a rest for a change. Lure fishing isn't as easy as bait fishing, but it's more rewarding and you can actually target certain species, thus avoiding trash fish like hardheads. Good luck to you TC.

Definetly some live mullet or piggy perch.
If I fished for money.........I'd be broke.
In a world of compromise.....Some don't.
