Just got back from KW, Had a blast.
Day one, went offshore. I mentioned I had never
caught an AJ, We stopped on a wreck in 200
ft, dropped a livey and was hooked up in about
30 seconds , just a 15 lb aj but he was a good
warm up.
Went out looking for Dolphin, but nothing was
happening, no weeds , no birds , no bait.
Came back to the Permit Patch ( 2nd species I hoped to cross of my list on this trip ) but
nothing going on there either.
So with half the day shot, we started hitting
wrecks on the way in , caught this one on 30 lb
test,
that was a workout. the next drop produced something bigger, It came in about halfway , heavy and strong , then decided enough was enough. It took line on a slow steady run until it found the
wreck.
The next wreck produced some barracuda and bonita, one of the bonita was hooked deep and
came in bleeding bad.

Captain wanted it for bait.
Shortly after , Mr Hammerhead showed up cruising
around the boat looking for what had been bleeding.
I could hear " Jaws " playing in my head. This
dude was 10 or 12 ft long. Captain Paul rigged
the bonita with a short wire leader , which I fed to Mr H. He bumped it once , circled and ate it.
I fed him some line, then tightened up. He just
kept swimming. I put more pressure on, and it decided it was hooked. He dumped about half a spool , which I slowly recovered before he did it
again. I was hooked up for about 20 minutes ,
then he was off. Just as well , I really did not
want to spend all afternoon pulling on a shark.
After pulling on 3 aj and the shark, I was not too interested in dropping
more live bait on the wrecks, We dropped crabs , but could not find
a permit, maybe next year.
We came back into the harbour and drifted pinfish for tarpon with no
takers, called it a day. Would have been a great day if we had not
made the run for dolphin, but thats fishing.
day 2
Wind picked up and we choose Tarpon fishing in the Harbour.
we were still setting the anchor, when a school busted up behind the boat.
I tossed a pinfish with spinning gear and was hooked up the first of many
tarpon of the day, Landed that fish and the next 2. 3 for 3 , a great start.
For the day I was 5 of 8. One monster took us on a tour of the island. I
fought this fish for well over an hour , had it within 30 feet of the boat
on several occasions. Captain said it was well over 200. When the leader finally
gave out , I didn't know whether to be mad or glad.
Other than one fish we guestimated at about 80, all the others were 100 plus.
Day 3 was even windier, so it was tarpon again, even thou my arms were
plenty sore from pulling on about 1000lbs of fish the day before.
I was 2 for 4 on day 3, not bad for a short trip.
Didn't get many Tarpon pic as my camerawoman was in the room nursing a sunburn
from day one.

GOOD LUCK
