Yep, sometimes thay want the bait well off bottom.

Seems like it would be good "jigging" in timber. May tie the weight on with a lighter line so it breaks off if hung. Something to try.
Guess I've caught dozens of catfish in a night this way (if you count hardheads off of the pier ;-)

I've caught a couple catfish using a drop shot with a live worm. Whatever works....
