real funny a few years ago you couldn't give a free backseat away to most if you mentioned you were going to Conroe...... More so if you mentioned North..... if you said south would say the dangers of other boaters was unsafe for fishing..... a couple big 10+ and look everyone wants on.... Hope it helps the local marinas they need the money.........

I'll jump out with what little information I have. I have had some small success the past couple of weeks trolling for hybrids in the area just north and east of the dam.
This past weekend was too windy for my small boat, so I fished on the bank, caught 4 channel cats.
Sat evening a neighbor told me a fishing guide had told him hybrids were chasing shad up to the shore, but you had to be there before sunup.
He was there at 5am monday morning, and ..... NADA.
I threw out some range cubes about 7am and caught a couple of small bluegill.
All the female hybrids and catfish I have caught in the past couple of weeks have been full with eggs, if that means anything.
I am a little new at boat fishing, if I had any more information, I'd sure pass it on.
Good luck

Dang if I can answer that.
I live on Lake Conroe.
My experience has been the people who actually live there are very helpfull.
Of course if they were keeping secrets, I wouldn't be able to tell.
It seems that threads about Lake Conroe generally do not last long.

I have know idea why people are hush hush about it. It is no different than any other good bass lake. It has its moments, mostly in the late winter through spring and then the recreational boats come out by the thousands. Head to rayburn or toledo, water is coming up and is in the bushes. Plenty of shallow fish to be caught without having to worry about someone smashing into you with a jet ski.

Right now there is tons of shad running the bulkheads and docks. They average about 2.5-3 inches long. You can see the bass, catfish and hybrids chasing them. I have even seen goo and caught one, on the bulkheads.
I have thrown square bill cranks, spinnerbaits and a Storm swim shad at them and had some success, but less than I thought. When I have caught a LMB, they are about 4-5#'s and fat. Stuffed with shad.
From first light till about 9am the shad will be on he bulkheads and then they move off into deeper water.

fish ledges creek channels brush piles points in 10-14 ft with crankbaits or carolina rigs. The big ones should be moved off the bank a little bit by now. Water temp on the main lake yesterday was 71

A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work!!!
