What species of Gar?? Due to the size you said they were eather Longnosers, or Alligator Gar.

Have you got a fly rod? That's good times!! Shoot me a PM. I'm close to Hubbard, and have some Gar flies that I'd be happy to share.

Garing on the fly is tons of fun.
What kind of flies do you use?

I have kind of a variety of flies I use for Gar, but most are clouser-ish. Some with stingers, and some with super sharp saltwater hooks. I've had okay luck with hookups on them, but haven't really found "the one" yet.

Snaggletooth I think i saw a mix of both. Do the tails on the longnosers happen to be a little more red this time of yr? I usually see a lot of spotted gar which are pretty small, but have been seeing a pretty good variety.

Red tails probably mean they are making beds. I don't think they normally have red tails.

It's easy to tell the difference in Longnosers, and Gator Gar. Gator Gar are thicker in the body and snout, where as the longnose Gar are more shin in the body and snout.

Evan, I've sent you a PM with my number. It might be tough to get out for a week or so, but we'll figure something out. No worries though, those pigs will be out ALL summer!!
